Gripping is an understatement
Revisado: 02-02-25
Brilliantly written and read by the author.
I too wonder what happened to Patricia, Carla and Chino. Not angels because Javier says so, but definitely divine humans.
This puts the spotlight on the challenges and traumas suffered by so many immigrants.
Namaste, Javier Zamora. I hope you’ve had a wonderful life in the US and I pray for you and so many others as 2025 as we enter into realms unknown. 🙏🏼

Historia
The first book to quilt the spirit of a wildly successful international clothing brand among the scraps of childhood trauma, Glitter Saints is the story of Robin Brown, creator of Magnolia Pearl. It’s a mining of tragedy for the kind of magic that creates and sustains—a sharp-eyed, soft-hearted, stubborn hope that’s the rarest raw material.

Love, wisdom and creativity
Revisado: 11-01-24
Astounding! First a fan of Magnolia Pearl but now a devotee. I can’t imagine the lack of safety, security & cruelty Robin lived through. This booked rocked my world. Robin is an incredible example of overcoming & letting her light shine no matter what, to bring her gift to the world. She is an example for me for no excuses. Love is the thread that weaves this story together. Now I’ll wear my MP with a sense of a warrior with endless possibilities and hope. Her desire to deepen her relationship with her mother was admirable as was the devotion to her father. She suffered far more than I but presents to us a beautiful path of healing through her storytelling. Bravo.

Historia
In Tokyo, 16-year-old Nao has decided there's only one escape from her aching loneliness and her classmates' bullying. But before she ends it all, Nao first plans to document the life of her great grandmother, a Buddhist nun who's lived more than a century. A diary is Nao's only solace—and will touch lives in ways she can scarcely imagine. Across the Pacific, we meet Ruth, a novelist living on a remote island who discovers a collection of artifacts washed ashore in a Hello Kitty lunchbox - possibly debris from the devastating 2011 tsunami.

Confusing, couldn't follow...
Revisado: 03-06-23
This book was recommended a couple of times but I'm not sure why.
I could not follow it, still can't figure it out.
Someone likes it though, just not me!

Historia
Growing up on Cape Cod in the 1960s, Liza Rodman was a lonely little girl. During the summers, while her mother worked days in a local motel and danced most nights in the Provincetown bars, her babysitter - the kind, handsome handyman at the motel where her mother worked - took her and her sister on adventures in his truck. He bought them popsicles and together, they visited his “secret garden” in the Truro woods. To Liza, he was one of the few kind, understanding, and safe adults in her life.

Tony Chop Chop
Revisado: 01-21-23
My wife is the same age as the author. Tony was employed for a time by her father, in Truro & Wellfleet, alas with the same end result as most of his jobs, fired.
It was fascinating listening to the details the author and uncovered. Kudos to her for the thorough research and for surviving Tony.
So many of the landmarks were my stomping ground & in my present life, I walk my dog in that beautiful cemetery, often.
Piggy’s was a regular dance venue while I was an underage, high school drinker.
The general overview of life as a kid on the outer Cape, puzzle pieces many of my own memories of being, basically the same age as the author, and growing up, from Brewster to Ptown.
The description of her mother reminded me of my own and the preferred party scene my mom loved. The description of an angry remorsful mother who regretted having a particular child impose upon her (partying) life, I could so relate to.
This was an engaging story, sadly at the expense of (endless) female violence & death.
And again, sadly, with the spotlight on the perpetrator.
Thanks for taking the time to write this, Liza, you’re OK!

Historia
Since the dawn of recorded history, humans have felt a kinship with the sleek and beautiful dolphin, an animal whose playfulness, sociability, and intelligence seem like an aquatic mirror of mankind. In recent decades, we have learned that dolphins recognize themselves in reflections, count, grieve, adorn themselves, feel despondent, rescue one another (and humans), deduce, infer, seduce, form cliques, throw tantrums, and call themselves by name.

Informative
Revisado: 05-19-22
This book is engaging and infuriating. The state of dolphin trafficking is as outrageous as human trafficking. Not necessarily an uplifting book, but educational.
The narrators voice is annoying and pretentious. I’ve heard several other books she’s narrated and thought the same thing each time, but, she’s better than she is bad, so, she gets 3 stars.
