Clean and lovely detective story

The characters aren’t completely flushed out. But I did enjoy the Edinburgh scenes and overall the placement of the pieces of the mystery’s puzzle.

I loved the Jane Austin meets Agatha Christie angle
Revisado: 04-12-25
I needed a break from the news and work stress so I’ve been listening to this book for the last day and a half while I’m doing mundane things. Really liked the voice of the reader and the storyline. There was one issue with the plot at the end. I’ll find a place to talk where I’m not giving a spoiler on Goodreads. However ~ I do recommend it!

Historia
One advantage of being caught up in a whirl of dress fittings and decisions about flower arrangements is that Charlotte Sloane has little time for any pre-wedding qualms. Her love for Wrexford isn't in question. But will being a wife - and a countess - make it difficult for her to maintain her independence - not to mention, her secret identity as famed satirical artist A. J. Quill? Despite those concerns, there are soon even more urgent matters to attend to during Charlotte and Wrexford's first public outing as an engaged couple.

Interesting storyline and characters
Revisado: 01-05-25
Although good mysteries, the writing itself is to be desired. Many cliches and repeated phrases. The romance is so overly downplayed.

Loved the time slip story
Revisado: 03-29-24
Excellent if not beyond extraordinary story ~ wish the artists were real! One issue was listening to the audiobook is the narrator didn’t often say who was going to be in first person. So some subtitles were missing.

Wry moving
Revisado: 11-08-23
I loved the heart soul wit and storytelling ~ as an audiobook I sometimes got confused where we were in the timeline ~ subtitles with years could have helped when he moved back and forth. Cried many times. RIP to a hauntingly deep and smart soul. Oh and btw it all started at 1 mos with the doctor prescribing barbiturates to an infant! <SHAME!>

Good story but too slow
Revisado: 09-10-23
I played it on 1.15 speed and still too slow. The story was quite compelling. The write up says hundreds but she only met 3 peeps with the experiences… interesting the story revealed her own experience as a child. I like the dna / science / origin part of the story at the end.

Loved the “gifts” and time period
Revisado: 09-10-23
I was surprised that this was an Amy Harmon book. I didn’t expect her to cover such a gruesome murder mystery. I understand that there is an authors note left out at the end of the audio book so now I’m gonna have to go try to find it. I want to know what part is based on historical facts. Was there really a Cleveland butcher that Elliot Ness was assigned to catch and did it end when the run was burned?
I loved the time period, and the premise about the two fated main characters having these inner gifts. I guess that part was more in keeping with Amy Harmon’s soulful aspects in her other writing…
Did we find out who did her parents in ~ or was it just perceived as a hit because her father was trying to run rum independently ~?
I listed to this on audible and I really disliked the narration by Rob Shapiro. Even though he does well with the accents, as another reviewer said, the cadence was all wrong and way too many pauses. I listened to it at 1.1 or 1.15.
