Historia
These 36 intellectually challenging yet remarkably clear lectures take you on an intellectual journey to explore the questions of divine existence, not from the standpoint of theology, but as an issue of epistemology, the classic branch of philosophy that concerns itself with knowledge theory: how we can know things and how we can know we know them.If you enjoy wrapping your mind around questions for which every potential answer triggers a new set of questions and issues, you will find this course particularly enjoyable, regardless of whether you define yourself as a believer, an atheist, or an agnostic.

A Feast, but...
Revisado: 12-16-15
I really enjoyed listening to Professor Hall, and found his open-mindedness to be refreshing. If he hadn't disclosed the fact that he's an episcopalian at the start, I would almost have described his as agnostic about the existence of God, but he did. He's a self-described Christian agnostic.
I found his dissection of the standard arguments for theism objective enough, and he admits that none of them are conclusive regarding the existence of one deserving of worship. The latter half though was more interesting as it delved into the usage of storytelling and the characteristics of cultural and scientific paradigms.

How did a persecuted sect in 1st-century Palestine rise to command such a massive influence on human culture, imagination, and spirit? How did Christianity weather the first critical stages of its historical development and attain its fundamental and enduring cultural role?

Full of Fascinating Information

I love listening to Professor Johnson. He's full of enthusiasm and lives sharing his wealth of knowledge with others. This was a very good series that was slightly let down by a handful of dry lectures on monasteries.

Historia
The Old Testament - written in ancient Israel by many different authors over the course of a thousand years - has had more meaning to more people than any other book the world has known. In a series of 24 lively lectures, Professor Levine explores selected passages from the texts known as the Old Testament, the Hebrew Bible, and the Tanakh, revealing how fresh research and findings from scholars of archaeology, cross-cultural studies, and comparative religion can deepen your understanding.

Masterful delivery by a terrific lecturer...
Revisado: 09-30-15
What did you love best about The Old Testament?
Dr. Levine delivered the material with a clear love of the subject and has reached conclusions that while at the time may have challenged her faith have ultimately made it stronger.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Old Testament?
Listening to Levine in not so many words refer to certain figures of the Old Testament as jerks.
Which scene was your favorite?
Her lecture on the book of Esther as a farce / tragedy with the implication that if you can't see this then you're blind.
Any additional comments?
I found that Levine has strengthened my Christian faith as opposed to her very Jewish arguments undermining it. She helped me to see the OT as not a series of literal historical events but as a variety of literary styles either towards a particular purpose whether it be polemical, poetic or allegorical in nature,
