Luc and Leia? Hmmmm

Luc and Leia are twins, who at ten are expected to leave home and live on the island together with all the other kids. I wasn't sure what to expect, I'm not usually a fan of Dystopian, and the character names threw me for a loop at first. I'm glad I hung in there though. On to book 2!

Awful

After I finish writing this, I am going to see if I can get my credit refunded. This isn't a story, its 90 odd 1-3min "chapters" written in journal form. If you want to hear 90 diary entries read out to you like a documentary of how to kill zombies and survive in a world after the apocalypse, then get this.

Slow, slow, stop

As all the other reviews say, David Weber is a great author, his Dahak series and Harrington series burn brightly in my mind and I have re-read them many times as well as listen now and then on my iPod.

BUT

This safehold series... its long and very very very slooooow. I would say boring, but its intriguing enough to make me spend $45 for the latest in, I must admit, a series of audio books that I listen to on my iPod at double speed. The narrator speaks so slowly, that after a couple of minutes you forget you are on double speed and wish there was a triple speed setting!

This entire series is huge. Every single book could lose 50% and you wouldn't miss any of the action. And they are extremely expensive. I hated paying 2 credits each for them, and the last one was $45! Its bad enough paying that for a good book, paying that here though? I must be mad.

Abridged download of a great book

Two stars because its abridged. I am hoping the creators will phase out all abridged versions of books. At least the price matches the length of this version.

This entire series in print is great, but this download is abridged. Still good for a couple of hours in the car or on the train.

Shame its abridged

The narration is good and i loved this series in print, but its always a shock trying an abridged version of a much loved book. Its just a shame they cut out so much.

Funny as heck

I was unsure about buying this, but it was christmas day and I was like "hell, its John Ringo, how bad can it be?"

I wasn't expecting it to be so much fun. Its laugh out loud funny in a lot of places, I remember the first time Tyler meets the aliens in their ship the most. Just funny as heck.

1 star because of the narrator is different

Harper audio and Gigi Bermingham ruined this book. There can be nothing worse than listening to all these books in order and then crashing into this one and hearing a completely different narrator try to make Jenks sound right...sigh. What a mess.
