Historia
It's senior party week, that magical in-between time after classes have ended but before graduation, chock-full of gimmicky theme parties, last-minute bonding, and family traditions. Olivia couldn't be more ready. Class salutatorian and confident in her future at LSU, she's poised to sail through to the next phase of her life. But when the tiny hiccup of an unsigned off-campus P.E. form puts Olivia in danger of not graduating at all, she has one week to set things straight without tipping off her very big and very nosy extended family.

I don’t care much for teen overblown drama, and as far as I made it in this book, it was overblown teen drama.

This is a deep dive that is exquisitely researched and beautifully written. I can’t wait for the next volume! My only complaint is the narrator’s slipping into exceedingly poor accents for various participants. Just stop it! Otherwise brilliant!

She’s a Phenomenon
Revisado: 12-12-23
I am not one of Barbra’s fans. I got this audiobook because it’s really long, I like Hollywood stories, and I had a road trip coming up. I don’t have any of her records and have seen only one of her movies. Nevertheless, this is a phenomenal book. She is smart and interesting and is funny and charming narrator. I’m not won over to adult contemporary music, love stories, or show tunes, but her insights and anecdotes make this a wonderfully enjoyable book. I highly recommend it.

Nothing new
Revisado: 11-30-23
A shallow and vapid woman trades a loyal husband for a life of wealth and privilege with a self-centered and entitled complainer yet is still dissatisfied. And we’re supposed to feel sorry for her because she’s witty and had style sense. I think this book doesn’t move the needle on Wallis Windsor, despite the author’s fawning. Still fun to read if you like royal gossip.

Historia
The Forty Elephants were unique in the annals of British crime. Known also as the Forty Thieves, they were the country's only all-female crime syndicate, a gang of tough but glamorous young women who plundered the fashion stores and jewel shops of the West End, took their lovers from the among London's most notorious gangsters, and terrorised their rivals, male and female alike. Their roots lay with the Elephant Gang, a band of highwaymen who once haunted the Elephant and Castle coaching inn south of the Thames and whose reputation descended through generations of cutthroats.

Dry as dust
Revisado: 11-10-23
I made it a couple of hours before giving up. It’s like listening to someone read a rap sheet. There’s no continuity of character, no compelling descriptions of anyone, any place, or any action. The thieves just blend together. I had hopes this would be interesting and it might have been if the author had bothered to do anything other than list criminals and their crimes.

No more online chats, please!
Revisado: 10-04-23
I bot read this book and listened to it. In print, the online chats were annoying. In the audiobook, they were unbearable. Fortunately I found that skipping them altogether didn’t diminish the book for me. The story was very good. I love the writing. I get that the author wanted to take on cyber bullying, but the chats were just awful. I recommend reading and skimming the chats, or just skipping them in the audiobook.

Historia
April Clarke-Cliveden was the first person Hannah Jones met at Oxford. Vivacious, bright, occasionally vicious, and the ultimate It girl, she quickly pulled Hannah into her dazzling orbit. Together, they developed a group of devoted and inseparable friends—Will, Hugh, Ryan, and Emily—during their first term. By the end of the year, April was dead.

How many times can the protagonist be wrong?
Revisado: 10-04-23
Hannah repeatedly suddenly sees things clearly, the pieces fall into place, her eyes are opened, and she is wrong every single time. She bemoans her stupidity, which is the only thing she gets right. She paints herself into corners. She is vapid and a drama queen. I upped the speed of narration and learned to fast forward through Hannah’s tedious rumination about Will’s sexy, stellar qualities. This was an okay listen for gardening or exercising, but although it seemed to have potential to be compelling, it never really got there.

Historia
The case seems so simple that Inspector Morse deems it beneath his notice. A wealthy, elderly American tourist has a heart attack in her room at Oxford’s luxurious Randolph Hotel. Missing from the scene is the lady’s handbag, which contained the Wolvercote Tongue, a priceless jewel that her late husband had bequeathed to the Ashmolean Museum just across the street. Morse proceeds to spend a great deal of time thinking—and drinking—in the hotel’s bar, certain the solution is close at hand, until conflicting stories, suspicious doings, and a real murder convince him otherwise.

Not good
Revisado: 08-12-15
Overwrought, predictable. It might work as a YA novel, but it was truly dreadful. The two main characters are complete ninnies. There is no plot point that's not telegraphed way in advance. I feel like a chump for slogging through to the bitter end, optimistically hoping that something unexpected would happen.
