Historia
Why is America living in an age of profound economic inequality? Why, despite the desperate need to address climate change, have even modest environmental efforts been defeated again and again? Why have protections for employees been decimated? Why do hedge-fund billionaires pay a far lower tax rate than middle-class workers? The conventional answer is that a popular uprising against "big government" led to the rise of a broad-based conservative movement.

I wish it didn't have to be written
Revisado: 09-10-21
It's pretty heavy and informally m depressing so I interspersed it with comedy routines on YouTube, but it is so crucial.
it needs to be taught and spread everywhere.
I bet most conservatives, if they listened to this, would be disgusted with the Koch brothers and conservative politics (and hey, these days, democrats too to some degree).

better than therapy
Revisado: 08-30-20
there are a few books that really hit the mark on helping you understand yourself, this being one of them. most of the books by Dan Siegel, spark, the power of habit, Bruce Perry.
books like this have helped me understand nicely exponentially more than therapy. I hope that therapists integrate this knowledge and take a more active, educational approach instead of just asking how things make people feel when they don't know what to say.

White Fragility

Historia
In this “vital, necessary, and beautiful book” (Michael Eric Dyson), antiracist educator Robin DiAngelo deftly illuminates the phenomenon of white fragility and “allows us to understand racism as a practice not restricted to 'bad people'" (Claudia Rankine). Referring to the defensive moves white people make when challenged racially, white fragility is characterized by emotions such as anger, fear, and guilt and by behaviors including argumentation and silence. These behaviors, in turn, function to reinstate white racial equilibrium and prevent meaningful cross-racial dialogue.

Changes definitions of words
Revisado: 06-18-20
Imagine if I said the word a$$hole doesn't mean what it usually does. Then imagine I call you that repeatedly in the original way it was used, but say I'm not doing that. Over and over and over.
That's what she does with the word racism.
This book is so intentionally insulting that it will only make people more racist. It stimulates the fear and anger part of the brain and will only make people double down on their racist beliefs.
She states something along the lines of white liberals have done the most harm to black people (been a while, but something along those lines). She is one of those dividing the races, separating us so that we are more easily conquered by the dark money political funders.
Way to go lady. Slow clap.
Cult thinking here.
I stand against racism and most of conservative politics. I see this book as playing the same amygdala abusing, divide and conquer games the conservatives do but on the "left." Though I don't think of her book as well thought out enough to be on the left. It's conservative.
One other thing. I've thought sociologists and anthropologists feel way too entitled to change the definitions of words and stereotype people in ways that seem racist (black people included) since long before this book was written. This is what she does here.

much better than I thought it would be
Revisado: 02-28-18
The name kind of threw me off at first. I figured it would be some gimmicky book full of selling you their services, but it wasn't. it's literally a how to book on how to get into the billion dollar app club.
some things might be a bit dated by now, but not too much, and that doesn't mean the info isn't still valuable. business is still business.

not perfect but more relateable than others
Revisado: 11-24-17
this book is more of a boots on the ground early stage book. most other books I've read are for business beyond where I'm at and don't go into enough detail on the stumbling blocks of getting started with no or little money. I like his performance, but it's not as polished as others. I actually like that for this book, but just be aware.

Child psychiatrist Bruce Perry has treated children faced with unimaginable horror: genocide survivors, witnesses to their own parents' murders, children raised in closets and cages, the Branch Davidian children, and victims of family violence. In The Boy Who Was Raised as a Dog, he tells their stories of trauma and transformation.

an important work
Revisado: 10-22-17
he has the same criticisms of therapy that I've had. he talks about how and why it can make things worse and what individuals as well as professionals should do instead.
I think the neurosequential approach is just the start of a new branch of therapy.

The best of the best
Revisado: 11-23-16
Of the classes I've taken and masses of books I've bought, this is the most effective. No gimmicks, she just dives in. She doesn't dwell on irrelevant factors of learning Spanish.
She instinctively understands what it takes get another language into your head, despite the dogma of classes and other books. She doesn't put the cart before the horse. There is a very frustrating ego aspect to most language learning that makes teachers and authors focus on things that keep you from ever really getting anywhere with Spanish... She doesn't have that.
My only wish is that it were much much longer. No exaggeration, all other books feel like a waste of money compared to this.
One other point, she first has native pronunciation and then repeats it herself with an English speakers accent. This is very helpful and allows you to understand the spelling of a word. Many letters in Spanish sound the same in different contexts, with only microscopic differences. This strategy makes for a good microscope for the non-native speaker. No time for gimmicks. This is for people that NEED to learn Spanish, as I did. It greatly increased my ability to schedule and even treat patients. Much more than classes or other books.

top ten business books I've listened to.
Revisado: 10-01-16
gave me a lot of great ideas to market my product. it covers the basics of marketing as well as some other aspects of business, but as they relate to marketing. it's not perfect but I found it extremely helpful. not just the content, but the pace and attitude are inspiring, but not by trying to be. they inspire because it comes from the authors real world experience... sorry no caps, my phone has issues.

Often downplayed in the excitement of starting up a new business venture is one of the most important decisions entrepreneurs will face: should they go it alone, or bring in cofounders, hires, and investors to help build the business? More than just financial rewards are at stake. Friendships and relationships can suffer. Bad decisions at the inception of a promising venture lay the foundations for its eventual ruin.

lots of good information
Revisado: 06-05-16
I gave this book five stars despite one major flaw, which was the constant referring to charts. Even with that, this book was very helpful. I especially liked how much the book covered how to handle equity.
The information was also sometimes very dense for audio book form, but I'd rather have too dense than just glossed over, though I wish I could find a book entirely on traditional company equity that delves even deeper on that subject.

Not that good
Revisado: 06-07-13
I will say, this book is more realistic and helpful than much of the new-age stuff that just keeps pushing people to be more neurotic and obsessively worried about being too nice to each other, but not a lot better.
I got too tired of listening to what he was trying to sell me to make his living to finish the book. Luckily I'm a member and can refund this one... He had some good points, but not enough.
