The story is very real and moving. The characters are fantastic. It’s witty and funny and I was truly bawling. It’s a great listen.

All the plot lines!

This newest installment of the beloved Cain Casey series does not disappoint. I can’t imagine anyone being able to walk away from this series without seriously wanting to be a Casey.

The story moves quickly with just enough background info on the plot lines to refresh your memory without it feeling like trudging through all the previous novels. You quickly become immersed in the Casey world where the justice may be unique, but is always justice nevertheless. I don’t want to give any spoilers so just know you won’t be disappointed. It’s the Ali Vali writing that we love with the cast of characters that feel like family. I for one am hopeful that this won’t be our last installment! The narration is also as good as ever with just enough difference in the character voices to make the story easy to follow without distracting from the story. Much appreciation for not attempting Irish, Russian, of Southern Louisiana accents and dialects!! Great job all the way around.

Just listen to it, or read it, or both. Whatever you do, don’t cheat yourself out of experiencing the magic of a Casey McQuiston one liner that’s witty and savvy and just so. . . finger on the pulse, that no matter where you are on your life’s journey, you relate. A masterpiece of reality woven into fiction that’s funny as hell and might also have the power to finally heal some residual trauma scars you’re carrying.

As for the narration, easy to listen to, characters easily distinguishable, nothing about the narration ever pulled me out of the story. She’s great too.

It’s a great story. Not predictable. I’ll admit there are parts where you have to listen “through” the narration and hear it in your own voice, but still the story is beautiful.

Talk about a character arc! Wowza!

I initially just left stars, but I had to come back and write a review. I’ve binged all 3 available books of their series over the last couple of days and it’s just so good. I love Jenny Frame’s strong butch leads and how she does such a great job of making you feel all the emotions. Plus, Amy Put. . . Wowza! Switching back and forth between Irish, British, French, and even American accents with ease and so seamlessly that it never detracts from the story. That in and of itself is impressive enough, but then there’s the different tones and inflections per character, age, and . . . Realm(?!) of paranormal? Lol. Just so impressed!

Age gap, Regency, Butch/Femme dynamic, and as a bonus a cameo from the beloved characters of the Axedale series. I have nothing negative to comment, and I fervently hope this might turn into a series.

Sweet 2nd Chance

I thoroughly enjoyed this first offering from Charley Clarke and look forward to future works. It’s a sweet second chance romance with a lovely cast of supporting characters. I felt like I wanted more of the story in a few places, but there were no glaring plot holes. I also feel the other reviews have been completely unfair.
IMHO the author did a great job of telling a story about how two people can love with everything they’ve got but still somehow mess it up, and the humility needed to own your choices.

Missed opportunity?

As always Gerri Hill does a good job of bringing all the feels, she writes the emotions so well you can feel them. . . I’m just not sure I wanted to feel all these feels. Other reviewers have mentioned the cringeworthy ick factor in this story, so I won’t beat a dead horse except to say that I feel like if handled differently ie, the love interest come hero of the story, Leah, swooping in to enlighten all on the fact that their “joke” was in fact a violation - a bit of a white knight trope and more of a resolution than a whispered apology and no real consequences for the perpetrator - if handled differently the ick could have been transformed into an empowering statement. As it stands I just don’t feel ok at the end of this story. As evidenced by the fact that I rarely write reviews but felt compelled by my conscience to implore us all to do better.

If you’ve ever been watching Drag Race and wished you could be read by Michelle, here’s your chance! And if you’re not already starstruck by the Diva herself, you will be by the time She’s finished telling her story with the same humility and grace which she lives her life.

I didn’t know of Michelle Visage until watching RuPaul’s Drag Race, but there’s something so real and lovely and just magnetic about her. Week after week watching the show I found myself waiting to see what Michelle would say and literally LIVING for her laugh. I wanted to know her and her secrets. I wanted to know what rules to live by in my own life so that my presence and impact on the lives around me could be just as strong, and Henny, that is exactly what The Diva Rules is all about. Narrated in her own voice it literally feels like a one on one with your best friend - a no hold’s barred lesson on how to WERK!

Narration oddity

Another beautiful, messy, true to life romance that Radclyffe tells with all the emotions. It’s a great continuation of this Rivers Community series. I had a hard time with the narration of this one. I think Paige McKinney is a good narrator and I’ve listened to lots of her narrations, but this one just felt incongruous. It’s probably just a difference of interpretation with the story. If you’re put off by the high pitched cartoon like way the Carrie character is voiced try to stick it out. The story and the continuation of the series are worth it!
