Historia
Here is Cheryl, a tightly-wound, vulnerable woman who lives alone, with a perpetual lump in her throat. She is haunted by a baby boy she met when she was six, who sometimes recurs as other people's babies. Cheryl is also obsessed with Phillip, a philandering board member at the women's self-defense nonprofit where she works. She believes they've been making love for many lifetimes, though they have yet to consummate in this one.

Wonderfully perplexing and mystical
Revisado: 04-26-25
I have never read a book like this in my life and I listen to hundreds of books per year. I can’t even explain what I just listened to. I have to listen again just to understand it. I don’t think listening to this book once will make you understand it. It’s really about nothing. The characters are perplexing. That’s the only word to describe this. You have to listen to this book to understand what I mean because there are no words.

Great Book but this AI narrator ruins it for the average listener. Thankfully, I’ve been listening for years and years and I get it, but this book would get a heck of a lot more listens if there was a different narrator. I’ll bet people start this book and stop listening because of the narrator and they deprive themselves of a great story. Please put this back on Audible with a narrator any person even a child would have better inflection than this AI narrator.

Historia
Daphne always loved the way her fiancé Peter told their story. How they met (on a blustery day), fell in love (over an errant hat), and moved back to his lakeside hometown to begin their life together. He really was good at telling it…right up until the moment he realized he was actually in love with his childhood best friend Petra. Which is how Daphne begins her new story.

Revisado: 05-17-24
I’m gonna preface this by saying I rarely write reviews. But this book has me crying laughing at 5 AM listening to it. The narrator is the funniest narrator I have ever listen to. If you want a good book that will make you smile or even laugh your ass off at five in the morning, this is your book

1 Word “INFLE CTION”
Revisado: 05-05-23
The narrators inflection was off on almost every sentence. Plus not pronouncing words correctly such as vodka which she pronounced vaka. Papier-mâché which was pronounced as written. I rarely complain and plan to finish as I’m halfway through but talk about annoying!

If you’ve ever lived in the south……listen
Revisado: 02-05-23
If you’ve ever lived down south and have time to listen closely, you will not be disappointed. This story is so familiar and true to the southern ways in that era. I absolutely loved it. I listen to hundreds of books of all genres and this one is top 5. Ivy Rowe is every kids mamaw. She is so spunky and loveable. I already miss her and I just finished the book.

PLEASE IGNORE REVIEWS
Revisado: 11-15-22
These reviews almost made me skip this book. I am vowing to skip reviews from now on. It happens a lot!!!!
She wrote a book around the Great Depression and folks review it as “depressing”
All that said, Kate and Tully were a dynamic duo and I cried when it ended. Every girl should have a friend at that age who pulls them out of their selves and saves them.
Please don’t let the reviews stop you. You won’t be sorry if you have a heart in your chest.

Bad Narration FR
Revisado: 10-06-22
I have listened to hundreds of books. Maybe more. I’ve been a member for 8 years and listen to 2 books per week.
That said, I have never commented negatively about a narrator. This lady enunciates the words so annoyingly. Nobody talks that way. I am halfway in still trying to ignore it.
She ruins the story which is a pretty good story.

Bad all the way
Revisado: 02-10-22
The narrator made losing her son sound like she broke a nail. The detail was overkill. I never write reviews but have been a member since 2006. This one is badly narrated and badly written. Sorry. It really is.

In her masterful new novel, Ivy Pochoda creates a kaleidoscope of loss, power, and hope featuring five very different women whose lives are steeped in danger and anguish. VAAA GIN YA
Revisado: 05-11-20
The narration on the characters of Virginia and the Art Dealer were comical. Over drawn accents - just dripping with over the top old money - or maybe ancient money.
The story is just slow and dragging. I am not even finished but felt compelled to comment on the accents and the storyline.
The writer definitely has talent. Some of the description words and such are very well constructed.
I will get more books by Gilly Macmillan - I don't believe a narrator should stop anyone from buying the authors books.
