Funny every once in a while, thought I would laugh more, but felt lectured. Too many $3 words, wanted to be entertained on a road trip; not this book. We made it half way through and stopped because we weren't listening anymore. Never seen Parks and Rec, maybe this book is for more devoted fans. I grew up in an Illinois farming community as well but didn't relate as much as I had hoped.

This book had a lot of studies and facts that were helpful to debunk things in the media. It was nice to hear the opposite of commonly held study results that get stuck in the mind as truth. I got really hung up on the suggestion of having sex once a week because it only takes 13 minutes. I just finished another book that stated that women take at least 30 minutes to get aroused. Why there was so much emphasis on having a sex life in this book made me like it less. I listened to this book because I listened to a podcast that suggested it. Now I know why: the podcast hosts are repeatedly mentioned. Guess they are scratching each others backs. I don't know that I would recommend this book to a friend.

The narrator was fine, the story was repetitive, too much worry about being assaulted sexually.

forcing myself to listen

I am not enjoying this book. I have to make myself listen and catch myself tuning out missing sections and having to rewind or just settle with the fact I've missed 3 minutes of a chapter. The narration is fine and the story is fine, but nothing keeps pulling me back to listen.

I couldn't relate to the acting passion, but the family struggles, ignored emotions and abusive relationships were shocking and sadly relatable. Great memoir, so glad Sally narrated.

cliche: it was better than the movie
I grew up watching the film and think it is great but the book fills so many holes left by the movie. Great narration! Thought that King wrapped this one up nicely, to me this was better than 'The Stand'.

what I have been waiting to hear

I have been on a self-improvement journey, not anymore. I bought this book on a whim. I'm so happy to have listened to it. It is like everything that has been in my brain the past four and a half years was written down by this author. There are no answers there's nothing to help you improve yourself. It is a collection of comments and facts about today's world that are refreshing to hear out loud. Can't wait to listen again!
