Historia
When COVID-19 sweeps through New York City, Jamie Gray is stuck as a dead-end driver for food-delivery apps. That is, until Jamie makes a delivery to an old acquaintance, Tom, who works at what he calls “an animal rights organization”. Tom’s team needs a last-minute grunt to handle things on their next field visit. Jamie, eager to do anything, immediately signs on. What Tom doesn't tell Jamie is that the animals his team cares for are not here on Earth. Not our Earth, at at least. In an alternate dimension, dinosaur-like creatures named Kaiju roam a warm and human-free world.

Fun!
Revisado: 04-27-24
This was exciting, technically interesting, fun, and funny. I enjoyed some sections so much (especially chapters 14 thru 17), that I listened to them several times before I moved on to the rest of the book. Will Wheaton did a great job reading. Make sure you listen to the epilogue - best I have ever read!

Dark Space, the last refuge of humanity, is overrun; its citizens are either enslaved or dead. The relentless Sythians have slaughtered humanity wherever they could find them, and now only a few hundred survivors remain. wonderful stories and readers. poor editing.
Revisado: 08-12-22
I loved this collection. the stories are truly great. for those of you who have seen the movies - listen to the real stories. just wonderful.
the readers brought the stories to life with great skill. each enhanced the stories they were reading.
oddly, there were some repeated words or phrases, as well as a few missing words or phrases. it sounds like the editing was rushed when all these stories were put together. none of the editing issues were bad enough to ruin the stories - just slightly annoying.
overall, this was a fantastic endeavor that is worth your time. Don't skip anything. you will find new joys.

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

extreme perfection!
Revisado: 01-16-22
First, this story is so perfect! All characters are amazing, the plot is riveting, and the science is mostly real, believable, and different.
Ray Porter adds to the perfection. I loved listening to him in the Bobverse series, but he went beyond in reading this book.
Thus the extreme perfection! I miss the characters. I didn't want the story to end. I must go collect myself now. My face is leaking. Good. Good. Good. (Listen to the story and you will know what I mean).

Historia
When Van Tudor returns to his childhood home, he inherits more than the family farm. His grandfather used to tell him fantastic stories of spacemen and monsters, princesses and galactic knights. Little did Van realize, the old man's tales were more than fiction; they were real. Hidden beneath the old barn, Van’s legacy is waiting: a starship, not of this world. With his combat AI, an android bird named Perry, Van takes his first steps into the wider galaxy. He soon finds that space is far busier and more dangerous than he could have ever conceived.

decent story but no plot
Revisado: 01-10-22
I like the concept, story and characters. It moves quickly from one adventure to the next. it's fun. somewhere in the last third, I started wondering what the plot was. With so many adventures, each with its own climax, it was not clear to me if there was an overarching quest that would tie all the adventures together. it kinda did, which we found out about in the last 2 chapters. that's the disadvantage of using a single point of view throughout the book - the reader only knows what that one person knows.

unexpected story with great characters and reading
Revisado: 12-25-21
This kept me engaged through to the climax - had unexpected depth and story - I cannot imagine reading this, as listening to Brent Spiner read this (and so many other Star Trek actors), was amazing. This fictional autobiography was funny, scary, intriguing, and well worth the listen.

wonderfully read but choppy story
Revisado: 12-19-21
This is the first Star Trek book I have either read or listened to on Audible. The book was wonderfully read by Mark Leonard, but the story was choppy without character development, scene development, motivations, etc. it seemed like an action story written for a forth grader who was already a Trekie and would know the characters from TOS and TNG. Based on the poor construct of the story, I thought the ending was relatively satisfying.
Then I realized this is an abridged version. It's an extremely abridged version and gives somewhat of an outline of the story. The full book is overwhelmingly better than this version. I will never listen to an abridged version again.

Historia
Robert A. Heinlein wrote The Number of the Beast, which was published in 1980. In the book Zeb, Deety, Hilda, and Jake are ambushed by the alien "Black Hats" and barely escape with their lives on a specially configured vehicle (the Gay Deceiver) which can travel along various planes of existence, allowing them to visit parallel universes. However, unknown to most fans, Heinlein had already written a "parallel" novel about the four characters and parallel universes in 1977.

The 4 voices and story are wonderful!
Revisado: 11-29-21
The use of 4 actors to read the parts is a perfect choice. When I read The Number of the Beast, I found that I was often checking with the chapter title to see who's perspective the chapter was from. So, not only did I dislike the ending of The Number of the Beast, but I often found it annoying to read. The verbal clues obtained by listening to the four readers in this version was flawless. I never once got confused as to who was speaking. This helped make the whole story so enjoyable.
The story is now wonderful with a much more satisfying last half and ending. As an avid reader of science fiction, both old and new, the new second half is so much more enjoyable than the second half of Number of the Beast. Action and danger scenes are interesting and the characters maintain their fun character traits throughout the story.
I don't usually write reviews, but this is now a favorite book of mine, with a great story made better with the flawless reading by unique voices for each of the points of view. Wonderful!
