Historia
Young Eddie Russett has no ambition to be anything other than a loyal drone of the Collective. With his better-than-average red perception, he could well marry Constance Oxblood and inherit the string works; he may even have enough red perception to make prefect. For Eddie, life looks colorful. Life looks good. But everything changes when he moves with his father, a respected swatchman, to East Carmine. There, he falls in love with a Grey named Jane who opens his eyes to the painful truth behind his seemingly perfect, rigidly controlled society.

Incredibly unique
Revisado: 03-24-25
I’ve read a lot of post apocalyptic and dystopian novels, but this one is a unique take on a saturated genre. I think it’s one of the most intriguing books and world building I’ve heard in a while.

Historia
Forty thousand years ago, humanity fled a dying Earth. Traveling in massive arkships, these brave pioneers spread out across the galaxy to find a new home. After traveling thousands of light-years, one fleet of arkships arrived at Centauri, a dense cluster of stars with a vast array of potentially habitable planets. The survivors of Earth signaled to the remaining arkships that humanity had finally found its new home among the stars.

Long space opera
Revisado: 02-01-25
Very long but the end was pretty dang great. It was hard to enjoy the characters. It could be because they were so realistically petty, short sighted, etc. consequently, I wasn’t rooting for an individual as much as I was the “good guy”’s cause.

Historia
Every Winter, the human population hibernates. Your name is Charlie Worthing, and it's your first season with the Winter Consuls, the committed but mildly unhinged group of misfits who are responsible for ensuring the hibernatory safe passage of the sleeping masses. You are investigating an outbreak of viral dreams which you dismiss as nonsense; nothing more than a quirky artifact borne of the sleeping mind. When the dreams start to kill people, it's unsettling. When you get the dreams, too, it's weird. When they start to come true, you begin to doubt your sanity.

Most unique concept in long time
Revisado: 12-16-24
I absolutely loved this book. The plot never lagged. The characters were all well written. There was an aspect of mystery and thriller amidst a spiritual/mystic theme.
It was grounded in believable mythology and history that made this alternate reality of present day earth so much more tangible than I thought would be possible.

Quality but overwritten

The author was given carte blanche to finish his story and it shows. While the story is incredibly unique and well done, this book was 10 hours longer than it needed to be. But still very good read.

Historia
The Bobiverse is a different place in the aftermath of the Starfleet War, and the days of the Bobs gathering in one big happy moot are far behind. There’s anti-Bob sentiment on multiple planets, the Skippies playing with an AI time bomb, and multiple Bobs just wanting to get away from it all. But it all pales compared to what Icarus and Daedalus discover on their 26,000-year journey to the center of the galaxy.

Normal person’s deep scifi
Revisado: 11-17-24
What I love most about this author is his ability to deliver deep scifi themes in the most common vernacular. Also the characters are above average in development and enjoyably accessibly.

Entertaining but a little overwritten
Revisado: 07-15-24
I really enjoyed this one. It was a solid sequel. Not as good as the first one but worth a listen.
The characters were great and the story was interesting. The pacing was a little off and honestly it could have been a little shorter and gave the reader the same effect.

Historia
For centuries, men and women have manned lighthouses to ensure the safe passage of ships. It is a lonely job and a thankless one for the most part. Until something goes wrong. Until a ship is in distress. In the twenty-third century, this job has moved into outer space. A network of beacons allows ships to travel across the Milky Way at many times the speed of light. These beacons are built to be robust. They never break down. They never fail. At least, they aren’t supposed to.

Decent but not great

I thought this book felt very long. Not much plot outside of a couple key chapters. Mostly a tormented ex-military man’s musings on his guilt and regrets.
