Here’s a game: as you listen to this story, narrated by an unimpressive Virtual Voice, take a shot every time the verb “grunt” is used to describe a character talking. You’ll be buzzed in no time! If you take off a piece of clothing every time a character responds onomatopoetically (inventing a new word here), you’ll be drunk AND naked. Enjoy!

The absolutely believable unbelievable Rosie Bloom and her weirdly plausible conundrums caused cascades of laughter not only when I was listening but also when I was talking to a friend about the audiobook I was in the middle of. That right there doesn’t happen often at all.

I was enjoying this until…

Bigotry got in the way at the very end. *spoiler alert* It was totally unnecessary to the story to make a direct - and very flawed - comparison between the Jews/Israel to demons/Gibraltar. It almost feels like Audible is not following its own guidelines set forth for reviewers, since comparing a religious group to demons could be considered to be offensive with no stretch of the imagination. Adding to this, although maybe more central to the story, was the framing of the leader of WW2 Germany as as more moral than Churchill in his choice of ally. I’m a bit leery of the timing of this. That being said, great voice work & production values.
