Historia
Teenage girls are taking courses of testosterone and disfiguring their bodies. Parents are undermined; experts are over-relied upon; dissenters in science and medicine are intimidated; free speech truckles under renewed attack; socialized medicine bears hidden consequences; and an intersectional era has arisen in which the desire to escape a dominant identity encourages individuals to take cover in victim groups. Every person who has ever had a skeptical thought about the sudden rush toward a non-binary future but been afraid to express it - this book is for you.

Hopeless
Revisado: 09-05-24
I cried off and on listening to this book, waiting for some advice for parents, which came in the last half hour and didn't give much hope. The pain this contagion causes more than just lost adolescents and teens, but their siblings, parents and extended family is so real. Thank you for being brave enough to show that it's not all rainbows and parties. It's scary to even suggest that there could just be sad girls out there seeking to feel included as they come of age, at a time where validating decisions made in pubescent angst makes loving families out to be intolerant criminals. I sure hope things turn around. Moving on to Bad Therapy.

Historia
In this “rich, complex family saga” (USA Today) full of long-buried family secrets, Marilyn Connolly and David Sorenson fall in love in the 1970s, blithely ignorant of all that awaits them. By 2016, they have four radically different daughters, each in a state of unrest.

Unbelievable and Disappointing
Revisado: 04-03-24
Spoiler alert. Good narration. Not the narrators' fault the story was so weak. Why do so many writers try to make us sympathize with cheaters and justify divorce between long time married couples? Of course the wife was the crazy, greedy one all along. She had a personality switch suddenly when she decided she wanted a home remodel and to pull back on her Uber driving career? Give me a break. The vilan was cool with her Data Entry husband through her kids' entire childhoods until a Facebook post makes her a money hungry criminal mastermind? I guess college tuition bills make people who tear up huge checks one day change their tunes years later. "Actually yes, I will take a payout on second thought." Dumb. The cheater had no choice but to get in bed with the gorgeous, rich young woman? For a year!? The wealthy, protective, mistrusting family never looked into the mysterious fiance of their mentally unstable trust fund daughter to protect their fortune? Convenient. I can't believe I just heard a whole book that ultimately chickened out with a Laney Boggs style - It Was True Love with The Hot One After All - nonsense. "I just now realized the mother of my children is actually crazy and my real love is this wealthy little lady half my age". I got more and more frustrated listening as the book went on. A disappointing, desperate, disconnected, random, unbelievable, silly story.

Historia
Against the backdrop of worldwide, unexplainable natural disasters, Dr. Virginia Marilyn Edwards (Emmy Award-winner Kerry Washington) seeks out Agent Scott Thomas (Emmy Award-winner Laurence Fishburne) at a secretive government headquarters. Virginia claims these events are signs, and unless Agent Thomas helps her, she believes things will only get worse. Her desperation is dialed up higher with a shocking proclamation as she stands before him pregnant, weak, and weary: “Agent Thomas,” she says, “I believe I am Mary.”

Historia
For most of the last hundred years, Biloxi was known for its beaches, resorts, and seafood industry. But it had a darker side. It was also notorious for corruption and vice, everything from gambling, prostitution, bootleg liquor, and drugs to contract killings. The vice was controlled by small cabal of mobsters, many of them rumored to be members of the Dixie Mafia.

I was hooked. Love the narrator. Sped through this book and couldn't get enough. I had to check and see if the stories were true because every detail was covered. The timeline was beautifuly laid out. I really hope this becomes a movie if it hasn't already.

Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Historia
Demonstrating once again her gift for spellbinding storytelling, Anne Rice makes real for us a great dynasty of four centuries of witches - a family given to poetry and incest, murder and philosophy, a family that over the ages is itself haunted by a powerful, dangerous, and seductive being called Lasher who haunts the Mayfair women. Moving in time from today's New Orleans and San Francisco to long-ago Amsterdam and the France of Louis XIV, from the coffee plantations of Port-au-Prince to Civil War New Orleans and back to today, Anne Rice has spun a mesmerizing tale.

Twists, turns, over my head sometimes but not too smart to where I couldn't pretend like I get the math pieces. Excellent narration. I mean wow, he even did a dinosaur noise at one point. It had a nice round ending so I felt happy and satisfied when it was over. Highly recommend this book!

Historia
When a banished witch falls in love with the legendary trickster Loki, she risks the wrath of the gods in this moving, subversive debut novel that reimagines Norse mythology. Angrboda’s story begins where most witches' tales end: with a burning. A punishment from Odin for refusing to provide him with knowledge of the future, the fire leaves Angrboda injured and powerless, and she flees into the farthest reaches of a remote forest. There she is found by a man who reveals himself to be Loki, and her initial distrust of him transforms into a deep and abiding love.

This book made me feel everything. And unlike any book in years it made me cry. I listen while I do chores or drive and even breaking down cardboard boxes in the garage the tears spilled over. Such a great and magical story, well told, and very well narrated.
