Historia
It seems like any other day. You wake up, drink a cup of coffee, and head out. But today, when you open your front door, waiting for you is a small wooden box. The contents of this mysterious box tells you the exact number of years you will live. From suburban doorsteps to desert tents, every person on every continent receives the same box. In an instant, the world is thrust into a collective frenzy. Where did these boxes come from? What do they mean? Is there truth to what they promise?

Makes you think about whether you’d open the box? I think yes. Has reinforced for me the importance of living every day :-). Will likely listen to it again.

Wow more than I expected!
Revisado: 01-18-25
First of all January LaVoy did an outstanding job as narrator of this book! She added so much to the story through her presentation of the characters.
As for the story itself, I loved all three of the main characters, and that they were presented as real women who evolved and were strong and distinctive and independent in their own, right, and turned into superheroes to solve outstanding murders of young women and work to protect young women in the future. Definitely recommend this read!

Historia
World War II has just ended, and Britain has established the Control Commission for Germany, which oversees their zone of occupation. The Control Commission hires British civilians to work in Germany, rebuild the shattered nation, and prosecute war crimes. Somewhat aimless, bored with her job as a provincial schoolteacher, and unwilling to live with her overbearing mother any longer, 30-something Edith Graham applies for a job with the Commission - but she is also recruited by her cousin Leo, who is in the Secret Service.

Complex story about Germany after WWII - and the allies perspectives at the beginning of the Cold War
Revisado: 11-03-24
Definitely became engaged with the major character characters in the book and found myself staying up late to know what happened next.
Provided insight into the Allies perspectives as well as the German and Austrian people. Realistic portrayal of the US, British and Russian positioning for power in Germany and the horrific, but true fact that all three countries recruited some former Nazis due to their knowledge, despite their war crimes, and allowed others to escape to South America.
The novel focuses on women’s roles in the war, both positive and negative and, in some cases, just trying to survive. Definitely a worthwhile read.

Disappointing end
Revisado: 08-31-24
Was okay. Strange having a male narrator given that the story is told from a woman’s perspective, and the strongest characters are all women. Parts of the book were very engaging and you were cheering for the protagonist, but the end was kind of rote and disappointing.

Historia
Logically, Sadie knows that civil engineers are supposed to build bridges. However, as a woman of STEM she also understands that variables can change, and when you are stuck for hours in a tiny New York elevator with the man who broke your heart, you earn the right to burn that brawny, blond bridge to the ground. Erik can apologize all he wants, but to quote her rebel leader - she’d just as soon kiss a Wookiee.

Not her best work
Revisado: 08-07-24
Quick story, not her best. The female lead is supposed to have a doctorate in engineering but seems flaky and is constantly second guessing herself - disappointing. Very little STEM references - which I missed as a woman in Tech. Narrators were fine.

Meh? Couldn’t get into this book
Revisado: 05-10-24
If you’re going to listen to it, immediately put it on 1.2 speed as the narrator speaks so slow.
I almost returned this book at multiple times as I was listening - found the lead overly emotional and impulsive, and the narration didn’t match his age/persona. I hung in and it was okay, but definitely not my favourite Patterson book.

Historia
A reluctant ex-spy with demons of her own, Elinor finds herself facing down one of the most dangerous organized crime gangs in London, ultimately exposing corruption from Scotland Yard to the highest levels of government. The private, quiet “Miss White" as Elinor is known, lives in a village in rural Kent, England, and to her fellow villagers seems something of an enigma. Well she might, as Elinor occupies a "grace and favor" property, a rare privilege offered to faithful servants of the Crown for services to the nation.

War/post-war female lead with grit, intelligence and compassion
Revisado: 01-22-24
Interesting novel with a number of twists and turns switching from the 1st and 2nd World Wars and the post war periods. The female protagonist is complex and compelling. And I learned more about these periods and the impact to people in these eras. Looking forward to reading more from this author and hopefully this narrator.

Historia
The one unbreakable rule in the Man Code is this: no matter how beautiful, smart, and clever she is, do not fall in love with your best friend's woman. Yeah, so I screwed up big time when I fell for her. I might have let my sin of unrequited love slide, given everything that went down in the last few years, but Lulu just walked back into my life as vibrant as ever. And the cards are stacked against me once again. We're working together, and the last thing I want to do is mess up her life with a forbidden office romance now that she's finally got the fresh start she deserves.

Witty fun full-cast romance
Revisado: 01-01-24
Great lead narrators and loved the full cast of narrators — really added to the story. Witty dialogue and good storyline. Liked that it didn’t have much angst (will they/won’t they drama). Will look for more titles by this author and these narrators.

In this sequel to Lost Things, when the Gilchrist Aviation team tries to win the money to keep the business going by placing first in a coast-to-coast air race, things get complicated! A stolen necklace, a runaway Russian countess, and a century-old curse seem like trouble enough, but then there's New Orleans, and the unsolved murders of the New Orleans Axeman. But what if the murderer is one of them?

Unique and interesting story
Revisado: 12-29-23
I’m really getting into these characters and rooting for them. Unusual to be set in the 30s during the depression, early aviation, and a save the world supernatural twist. Really hoping Audible will get the next 3 books in the series.
