Historia
Walter Hudson claims we worship some obscure Demon that we had to Google. Joe Biden gives a great SOTU speech while Republicans in attendance embarrass themselves. Rep. Andy Smith joins the DFL Hotseat and is very funny, even if he makes fun of the show. The Facts of Vlad , is informative, as always.

We're Not Devils, We're Democrats
Revisado: 02-12-23
Mollach, who? When Republicans say that Democrats are the children of the Devil, they get very, very specific about which particular demon we're allegedly worshipping. Hilarity ensues as Ken and company research Leviticus to figure out who has our souls. All this plus smart comments and insights on the State of the Union address, and the burning question of whether the MN DFL is getting too much done at the legislature.

Historia
Based on actual events that happened between 2005 and 2009 in a remote Mennonite community where more than 100 girls and women were drugged unconscious and assaulted in the night by what they were told (by the men of the colony) were "ghosts" or "demons", Miriam Toews' bold and affecting novel Women Talking is an imagined response to these real events.

scary story
Revisado: 01-08-23
Scary because it is based on actual events. Scarier because the issues these women are dealing with, to stay or leave in order to protect themselves and their children from the men beating and raping them (or the men allowing them to be beaten and raped by others) are faced by most women in the outer world too. Wanted to read the book before the movie debuts. It didn't disappoint. Now can't wait to see the film.

Robinson tells the story of John Ames Boughton, the prodigal son of Gilead’s Presbyterian minister, and his romance with Della Miles, a high-school teacher who is also the child of a preacher. Their deeply felt, tormented, star-crossed interracial romance resonates with all the paradoxes of American life, then and now.

The Paralysis of Introversion
Revisado: 03-30-21
I liked the book for the interesting situation it presented and for Della's steadfast love and confidence in honoring their love. I also hated the endless self-absorbtion of the title character, Jack. All of his difficulties and problems and the pain he causes stem from thinking his every act and gesture has cosmic impact on others. i just want to shake him and tell him to get over himself. The author does an amazingjob keeping you reading/listening despite her very flawed protagonist.

wow wow wow
Revisado: 08-15-20
It is really difficult to pull off this type of memoir without sounding maudlin, and self-pitying. the weird thing is she is full of self-pity, and anger, but you don't care because she is also full of spunk, and self-awareness, and understanding of her mother's vulnerability to the cult's influence. I just couldn't help rooting for for this young woman.

Historia
Eleanor, the charming manager of a cozy tea shop, enjoys the transportive ritual of making a cup of Masala Chai tea, reminisces about the tea's origins, and delights in the beauty of her quaint English village during the holidays. Bedtime stories are narrated by the world's most celebrated voices and written with no beginning, middle, or end so you don't stay up to hear what happens next. They're interesting enough to give your mind something to focus on, but delivered in a way that encourages sleep.

What’s in a name? A lot. The name Tinaca, for example, has been passed down in the Jones family for generations of women. In fact, the Joneses name a Tinaca every other generation, to let the name breathe a little. To let each Tinaca shine. And shine is exactly what Tinaca Jones intends to do.

I'm not into social media so I was surprised I ended up caring so much about the heroine of this story. A big part of the credit goes to the smart writing, and the very likable reading that made her seem very real. Well done.
