In this astute mix of cultural critique and biblical studies, John H. Walton presents and defends 20 propositions supporting a literary and theological understanding of Genesis 1 within the context of the ancient Near Eastern world and unpacks its implications for our modern scientific understanding of origins.

Profoundly important
Revisado: 02-17-18
Walton’s work is exceedingly scholarly yet surprisingly approachable for the layperson. A profoundly important treatise on breaking the backs of concordism and the false dichotomy of “science vs scripture.” I have read (and furiously highlighted) the print version of this work multiple times before the audio version was even produced. This excellent audio production makes the source material even more accessible and the performer’s conviction makes it even more convincing as he channels the author himself. Bravo to Audible Studios for producing this and I pray they (and the same performer) will follow up with a production of Walton’s The Lost World of Adam and Eve.

Historia
Hear British scientist Richard Dawkins and geneticist Francis Collins on this edition of Fresh Air. Richard Dawkins is a professor of the public understanding of science at Oxford University. The New York Times has hailed him as a writer who "understands the issues so clearly that he forces his reader to understand them too". In his latest book, he writes about what he sees as the irrationality of a belief in God and sets down his arguments for atheism.

Dominated by Dawkins
Revisado: 08-07-11
During the program, we hear from Dawkins for about 25 minutes but from Collins only about 10. I was disappointed each guest did not have the same amount of time to plead his case.
