Historia
Talia could scarcely believe that she had finally earned the rank of full Herald. Though this seemed like the fulfillment of all her dreams, it also meant she would face trials far greater than those she had previously survived. For now, Talia must ride forth to patrol the kingdom of Valdemar, dispensing Herald's justice throughout the land. But in this realm beset by dangerous unrest, enforcing her rulings will require all the courage and skill Talia could command - for if she misuses her own special powers, both she and Valdemar will pay the price.

Great book and narration
Revisado: 05-24-23
I’ve read this series over and over again. So glad it’s on Audible now. The story is good and there are many other books in the Valdemar universe beyond this trilogy. The narrator is one I’ve heard before and like quite a bit. There were a few parts that I didn’t care for, like when she whines or cries the lines of a bratty child, but I appreciated her effort and enthusiasm in bring the characters to life. I’ll definitely listen to this book again and again.

I cried at the sad parts and the happy parts!
Revisado: 12-24-21
I got this book through one of Audible’s Daily Deals. This is not at all a genre I normally read, but the synopsis tugged at my heart and I felt like maybe this was a story I needed to hear right now. Everyone has faced loneliness at one time or another for a variety of reasons. In the beginning, I hated how the story kept jumping between past and present, but once I got more towards the end of the book, I got it. This book wouldn’t have been what it was if it were told any other way. The narrator was fantastic and brought the characters, Hubert in particular, to life. The author touched on several tough issues without beating the reader over the head with them. This book didn’t feel like a lecture or soapbox while still giving me things to think about. And I think everyone can identify with loneliness and many can identify with shutting down in response to traumatic life events. This book let me look at the good in people that I hesitate to trust. Thank you for that. I cried at the sad parts and some happy parts. Maybe I’ll give magic and dragons a break and try some more books by this author.

Same narrator as the Alanna series
Revisado: 12-16-21
I like this story. It follows Alanna’s daughter and we get to see updates for many characters from Pierce’s other books set in Tortall while exploring a different country from the same world. I thought it was kinda neat that the narrator did Alanna’s books and Alanna’s daughter’s books.

In Magic's Pawn, an ancient age in the history of Valdemar comes to life - an age when the kingdom was ravaged by the ungoverned fury of bandit warlords, ferocious ice dragons, and the wild magic of wizards. A new addition to Lackey's Valdemar kingdom - and her most powerful series to date!

One of my favorites.
Revisado: 04-25-21
This was the second series I ever read from Mercedes Lackey and it’s always been one of my favorites. The narrator is fine. My only complaint is that he doesn’t pronounce some of the words the way I expected. I’ve listened to this audio version several times and I just don’t mind it the way some of the other reviewers did. This is one of my favorite books so I never have any trouble following it or determining which character is talking. I might have used different inflections on some of the dialogue, but it wasn’t distracting. His voice worked fine for the character and the story. Vanyel is not an easy character, in my opinion, and I felt the narrater captured his spirit without making me want to choke the character. I will continue to listen to this one again and again.

Weird & inconsistent pronunciations
Revisado: 01-09-21
I have read this series several times so am familiar with the story. I was really confused when the narrator kept pronouncing “merc” in a variety of ways. It kept jolting me out of the story. One notable place this jumped out at me was when she is talking about what sounds like “mere Captain Kerowyn” when it should sound like “merk.” Merc, short for mercenary, means something very different from mere in this context. She pronounced merc at least three different ways throughout the entire book which was making me a bit crazy. Otherwise, I enjoyed the narrator and the series is good.

Historia
Is bourbon the quintessential American liquor? Bourbon is not just alcohol - the amber-colored drink is deeply ingrained in American culture and tangled in American history. From the early days of raw corn liquor to the myriad distilleries that have proliferated around the country today, bourbon is a symbol of the United States. This course traces bourbon's entire history, from the 1700s, with Irish, Scottish, and French settlers setting up stills and making distilled spirits in the New World, through today's booming resurgence.

Very interesting, but was broader scoped than I hoped. The narrator was great. My goal was to learn more about the difference between whiskey and bourbon and I feel like I took the scenic route with a hundred pit stops to get there.

Good continuation of the series
Revisado: 10-15-20
I was hesitant to continue this series because the narrator changed, but I’m glad I did. I really liked this narrator and the change wasn’t too jarring. Alex is continuing to grow and mature and the new narrator was a good fit for me.
