Historia
When bookish young American Sylvia Beach opens Shakespeare and Company on a quiet street in Paris in 1919, she has no idea that she and her new bookstore will change the course of literature itself. Shakespeare and Company is more than a bookstore and lending library: Many of the prominent writers of the Lost Generation, like Ernest Hemingway, consider it a second home.

Lack of Hemingway
Revisado: 11-27-23
interesting from a very limited perspective. This is a pretty narrow view of all the things that happened in this amazing book store and the many things that took place there, even in a historical novel that presents itself as ‘historical’’ in nature. Suffers from leaving too much out of individuals who were and remain historical and deeply connected to this amazing place. There's more to the 20’s in Paris than Joyce.

Expecting more!
Revisado: 09-28-23
Donna Leon is certainly an interesting character. And, I was expecting more in terms of insight, richness and perhaps personal observations beyond the simple minimal items that are shared in this 'memoir'. I continually had the impression that there was more to tell us. The onion got peeled only so far and not too much. Obviously, that's her choice, and that, for me, was disappointing as I have always enjoyed her writing, especially on my many trips to Venice. I'm thinking she has more to say and sadly we might not get to hear it. In the meantime, I'm sticking with Guido, et al.

Just not sure . . .
Revisado: 09-02-23
This book has promise but it just doesn't hold together in terms of actually starting a story that you might want to stick with. Lots of promise but just needs to provide more 'connective things' to bring one along. The author seems like an interesting, well educated person but the writing just isn't there . . . . yet. I hope she keeps going

Historia
Some 500 years ago, Sandro Botticelli, a painter of humble origin, created work of unearthly beauty. An intimate associate of Florence’s unofficial rulers, the Medici, he was commissioned by a member of their family to execute a near-impossible project: to illustrate all 100 cantos of The Divine Comedy by the city’s greatest poet, Dante Alighieri. A powerful encounter between poet and artist, sacred and secular, earthly and evanescent, these drawings produced a wealth of stunning images but were never finished.

Historia
We often sell ourselves short with self-limiting beliefs, but most of us would be amazed and delighted to know that we do have something special - our distinctive passions and talents - to offer. And what if I told you that what you have to give will also enable you to live a life of true contentment? How is that possible? It happens when you embrace and curate your own simply luxurious life. We tend to not realize the capacity of our full potential and settle for what society has deemed acceptable.

Not too cool !
Revisado: 01-11-22
Sounds like it's read straight from the book which it most likely was. Self absorbed, self centered and not fun to listen to. Realizing it was a self help book written with a woman targeted audience, I thought I might be able to grab some nuggets. Just not there. Boring at most.

Not a great review of Coco Chanel
Revisado: 10-23-21
Was more about the author and her ability ( or not ) to provide barbed comments and silly perspectives often not about the supposed subject. Author is WAY to self absorbed. Looking for a better book about Coco!
