Every voice actor did an incredible job with this project! good example of how important casting talent is for audiobooks. Except the narrator. The narrator....phew. I'll admit after awhile he grew on me, but I wasn't sure I'd get through the first chapter.

It's like....He. Stops. And starts sentences so they sound weereeeird. HE RANDOMLY YELLS!! Like a cracker jack diamond seahorse! When you think.....you got IT?! He says some random slang phrases. Cause why not? ITS HIS BOOK!! And sometimes.....books ....neeeeed soooooooound. Touchdown baby.

Anyway the narrator's style can be kinda annoying, especially for a fairly complicated story with a TON of characters. Still ABSOLUTELY worth a listen! I'd recommend trying to white knuckle through a couple chapters and see if you can get use to it.

I'm kinda in awe

This is probably the best Stephen King audiobook Ive heard. Considering the voice actor had Kathy Bates to live up to I'm seriously impressed. This is a 5 star across the board audiobook. Almost perfect I'd say. If you like Stephen King, audiobooks, or any media in general this is a must listen.

It really is a lot of fun

Keeping in mind it's already about a decade old, this is some top tier sci-fi nonsense. It's a good time. Some parts sound like an Andy Weir impersonation. However if you're gonna copy someone Weir isn't a bad choice. A few of the jokes are downright cringe, but the story is what makes the book. I'm deep into book 2 and I'm pretty sure I'll be enjoying the Bobverse through its end.

Story fell apart for me

I made it to episode 5 and realized I didn't like a single character. The performances are actually pretty good and the plot was promising til I started noticing a few holes. Then a character did something especially stupid and annoying (about 30 min into episode 5) and it was the last straw. I genuinely don't care how it ends. Not a good sign for a detective mystery.

Paget Brewster is an underrated treasure

Fans of Community know Frankie was an underrated character in the 'lesser beloved' seasons of Community. She nails her performance here. Story is good enough to keep your interest, but it was the cast that kept me listening.

It's a good listen 👍.

I think the title's misleading. Its mostly describing a castle, not how to build one. Along with some random info about the people living in one. Not what I was hoping for and kinda annoying.

This book really is well done

It's rare I burn a credit on impulse but the other reviews were encouraging. This is like a Dan Carlin HH episode. All the facts, info, and story flow really smoothly here. You can kinda just relax and follow the Mongols through all their greatest hits. The word 'effortless' kept coming to mind, cause thats not always the case when enjoying history, but every time a chapter started I was eager for the next part. One very minor critique is the tone feeling slightly 'pro Genghis' :)? Couple times I chuckled at how great this super progressive, family loving, religiously tolerant Genghis character sure seems to be.


Overall I'd still say this is one of the better 'Great Steppe' related books.

I couldn't get over it....

Those wet sloppy mouth noises. My God. I kept hoping they would stop but everytime Id start ignoring it he'd pause and suck on what I assume were coughdrops. Maybe he was sneaking in hard candies throughout the recording 🤔 ?! I dunno, story is excellent but the slow and VERY moist narrator just tanked the entire experience.

Genuinely surprised

I'm only 3 episodes in and I'm hooked. the story and performances are beyond what I was expecting. I enjoy old radio dramas/mysteries and this is becoming one of the better stories I've heard. I may not much like your app, but you make some good stuff Audible.
