This captivating historical novel created by an extremely talented author and read by an equally talented narrator is one of the best historical fiction I’ve ever read. Mr. Gerlis takes you on a journey full of suspense, intrigue, and espionage that I found hard to put down.

I was thrilled to have a new John Corey/Kate Mayfield adventure. I enjoy the uncanny relationship and chemistry between the two characters as they navigate the professional lives of modern day anti terrorist scenarios. DeMille's descriptive prose of sights and sounds is second to none.I always feel as though I am standing next to his characters as they travel the world in search of the bad guy. This story, although interesting in nature was stretched like an elastic band ready to snap. Mr. DeMille is one of my favorite authors but I believe the pace of this story is dreadfully slow. Once the initial plot line was established it took forever to get moving and I found myself drifting in and out of interest during the middle chapters. That being said, DeMille brilliantly sets the reader up for a sequel to this tale. The publisher is most fortunate to have Scott Brick return as narrator. His portrayal of each character is consistent with what I have experienced in the past.

This is an extremely well written novel that I would have highly rated on it's own merits. However the incomparable talents of
Cassandra Campbell, Jenna Lamia, and Octavia Spencer bring to life the tone and ambiance of the 1960's in Jackson Mississippi. It's one of the best audible experiences to date.
