Disappointing
Revisado: 02-15-25
The narration was well done. The story, however, was too predictable and ultimately not very engaging.

Good Writing, But …
Revisado: 10-31-24
So the writing is obviously very good, but I never engaged with any of these characters in the story. Perhaps it’s just me, but I found this a long and boring slog.

Historia
Suburbia. Shady, tree-lined streets; well-tended lawns; and cozy homes. A nice, quiet place to grow up. Unless you are teenage Meg or her crippled sister, Susan. On a dead-end street, in the dark, damp basement of the Chandler house, Meg and Susan are left captive to the savage whims and rages of a distant aunt who is rapidly descending into madness. It is a madness that infects all three of her sons and finally the entire neighborhood. Only one troubled boy stands hesitantly between Meg and Susan and their cruel, torturous deaths.

Amazing Story of Self Discovery
Revisado: 07-08-24
It took me a few chapters to get into the flow of this book, but then I couldn’t stop listening. I found it easier to put the narration speed on 1.2 as the narrator speaks quite slowly. This book is rather amazing in the way that it’s written, beautiful and lyrical, and so informative if believable. I am not a diver, so I really can’t speak to any of that, but I love how the storyline connects together all living things, all memories, all life. I highly recommend this novel!

Historia
Julia Worthing is a mechanic, working in the Fiction Department at the Ministry of Truth. It’s 1984, and Britain (now called Airstrip One) has long been absorbed into the larger trans-Atlantic nation of Oceania. Oceania has been at war for as long as anyone can remember, and is ruled by an ultra-totalitarian Party, whose leader is a quasi-mythical figure called Big Brother. In short, everything about this world is as it is in Orwell’s 1984.

Magnificently Horrible
Revisado: 04-17-24
How a wonderful take on Orwell’s 1986 but from a completely different viewpoint! This should absolutely be taught in school in tandem with Orwell’s novel. The inhumanity is sometimes very hard to hear, but isn’t that always true? I highly recommend this book.

Like a restorative walk through a primeval forest, only this tail takes us through time. The language used is descriptive and bursting with the beauty of nature, the human foibles are bare and achingly recognizable. I highly recommend!

I took a chance on this story, and I wasn’t disappointed. Character development is quite good, and of course the storyline leaves it wide open for sequels. The narrator was very good.

Nobody has a “normal” family, but Vesper Wright’s is truly...something else. Vesper left home at eighteen and never looked back—mostly because she was told that leaving the staunchly religious community she grew up in meant she couldn’t return. But then an envelope arrives on her doorstep.
