He turned his back on God
Revisado: 09-13-23
It breaks my heart to see that Andy is No longer a man of God and has lost his faith. Sad to say that he has fallen from truth and preaches false hope in a world that desperately needs truth. Manipulates the truth and does not speak on sound doctrine based on biblical doctrine.

The story of Christ is simply amazing. This book was very helpful to hear it through a historical viewpoint and is helpful to understand the tone of the day. Same outcome in the end. Christ is lord overall and is at the right hand of God today.

Historia
In 1990, while covering a story about homelessness for the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Ted Jackson encountered a drug addict sleeping under a bridge. After snapping a photo, Jackson woke the man. Pointing to the daily newspaper by his feet, the homeless stranger looked the photojournalist in the eye and said, “You ought to do a story about me.” When Ted asked why, he was stunned by the answer. “Because, I’ve played in three Super Bowls.”

I wish he'd write a story about me too!.....,
Revisado: 09-02-20
Wow..
What an amazing story about being human. Everyone has hurts, hangups, challenges, and a genuine need for grace that is freely given when openly saught. Late in the book, a comment that stuck was when Ted said "I had no idea how much we were alike" (referring to He and Jackie). From walks of life that could not have been further apart brought together two guys who began a journey that could not be made up.
No Politics, no race, no opinions, but rather the art of listening to hear (really listening), daring to care for someone who didn't care for themself, and the heart of a servant for a friend.
Jackie was right when the title was conceived, and what a story it is!!!

Hebrews 11:1 to a T!!
Revisado: 04-08-19
Faith is being sure of what you want and certain of what you do not see.
I’m my biggest critic and for what, I do not know. Serving the one true God should consume our thoughts and mind. Yet we try our hardest to feel as though we are “smarter” by trying to steer God rather than hold his hand.
Great book Max.

"I'm not motivated, I'm Driven!"
Revisado: 03-14-19
There are countless motivational books out there, most of which SUCK. David doesn't try to be "that guy". He keeps it real. Opens up his heart and soul throughout the book in both the highs, as well as the lows of his life. In the beginning of the book, when he was expressing his personal opinions of "motivational books", before he even said that he personally is not motivated, I said aloud: "I'm Driven!". Not 30 seconds later, he said the same, and he's right!!
This book does not motivate me, but rather drives me to push even harder. I too was from a 350lb beer guzzling slob 4 years ago. My kids thought the color of my eyes were red because I always had a drink in my hand. Today, at 41 years old, I wake up at 3:45 every day, get my workout in, have been at 200lbs for over a year, and wish that I had more hours in a day to accomplish all that I think needs to be done.
A shift in thinking, mental strength, and passion for the life you want can only come when you change your mindset.
After finishing this book, I am humbled having thought that "I'm the man" when in reality, I am only partially through my journey of life. ANYONE can accomplish ANYTHING with the right mindset.
Thank you for your service David!

Historia
Already cited on the floor of Congress and discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a book all Americans should read, One Second After is the story of a war scenario that could become all too terrifyingly real. Based upon a real weapon - the Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) - which may already be in the hands of our enemies, it is a truly realistic look at the awesome power of a weapon that can destroy the entire United States.

Too realistic for comfort.
Revisado: 03-08-19
The scenario is too realistic for comfort. Having lived in New Orleans most of my life, it was harrowing to see how fast society deteriorated once the storm had passed. To think that basic necessities were only unavailable for a few days before help arrived is all the more troubling considering that a potential EMP would knock everything out indefinitely. Well written, great depiction by reader.
