Historia
One hundred years ago, 4 crewmembers of the U.S.S. Enterprise™ crossed the dimensional barrier and found a mirror image of their own universe, populated by nightmare duplicates of their shipmates. Barely able to escape with their lives, they returned, thankful that the accident which had brought them there could not be duplicated...or so they thought. But now the scientists of that empire have found a doorway into our universe. Their plan is to destroy from within, to replace a Federation Starship with one of their own.

Poor performance holds back a good Trek yarn
Revisado: 08-02-15
Is there anything you would change about this book?
I really like the Mirror Universe for some reason, so I got a kick out of this book despite the poor narration. The technobabble is par for the course for Star Trek, but it seems to be even more annoying and distracting coming out of the mouth of De Lancie.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of John De Lancie?
De Lancie is very good at playing Q, but he does not have a particularly good voice for audiobooks. His attempts to imitate the voices of the other characters fall flat.

Historia
Return once more to a galaxy far, far away with this sublime retelling of George Lucas's epic Star Wars in the style of the immortal Bard of Avon. The saga of a wise (Jedi) knight and an evil (Sith) lord, of a beautiful princess held captive and a young hero coming of age, Star Wars abounds with all the valor and villainy of Shakespeare's greatest plays. 'Tis a tale told by fretful droids, full of faithful Wookiees and fearsome Stormtroopers, signifying...pretty much everything.

Refreshing new twist on a classic!
Revisado: 08-02-15
Would you listen to William Shakespeare's Star Wars again? Why?
The ensemble cast did a fantastic job. Some of these voice actors sound very close to the actors from the films (the one who played Luke Skywalker in particular). But they don't content themselves with imitation. They deliver the lines in a very evocative way, and when you hear John Williams' score at the key points, you will be sold.
What did you like best about this story?
First of all, Ian Doescher is an amazingly talented man for being able to recreate Elizabethan verse so effectively. He should be applauded simply for being able to rework the movies into so many lines of iambic pentameter. But when you hear characters who were mute in the original films proclaim multiple lines of clever soliloquy or when you recognize allusions to other Shakespearean plays or even Star Trek (!) you will be even more impressed that he was able to pack so much more in while staying faithful to the original.

Historia
Introducing James Bond: charming, sophisticated, handsome, chillingly ruthless, and licensed to kill. This, the first of Ian Fleming's tales of secret agent 007, finds Bond on a mission to neutralize a lethal, high-rolling Russian operative called "Le Chiffre" by ruining him at the Baccarat table, forcing his Soviet spymasters to "retire" him. It seems that lady luck has sided with 007 when Le Chiffre hits a losing streak. But some people just refuse to play by the rules.

Pretty good rendition of an overrated novel
Revisado: 08-02-15
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
The story is very weak, and the characters are cardboard. I believe one early chapter was almost entirely devoted to the mechanics of gambling in baccarat or something. Fleming might have entertained another generation, but it is honestly not interesting any longer.
Has Casino Royale turned you off from other books in this genre?
Casino Royale consistently ranks toward the top of Fleming's novels in the Bond series. But honestly I can't see what the appeal is. Even though I know Fleming was involved in intelligence activities in WW2, it still seems that the author is basically naive about how intelligence organizations function and what makes an operation. That said, if you like the movie you will probably like the audiobook because the movie followed the book slavishly.
