Historia
Rick Atkinson recounts the first 21 months of America’s violent war for independence. From the battles at Lexington and Concord in spring 1775 to those at Trenton and Princeton in winter 1777, American militiamen and then the ragged Continental Army take on the world’s most formidable fighting force. Full of riveting details and untold stories, The British Are Coming is a tale of heroes and knaves, of sacrifice and blunder, of redemption and profound suffering. Rick Atkinson has given stirring new life to the first act of our country’s creation drama.

Detailed Analysis
Revisado: 07-09-25
I thought the book was a bit dry. It does include a massive amount of facts that I presume are accurate. But the prose was stilted and choppy. I have read many other books by this author and this is one of my least favorite. In summary, I learned a lot but did not enjoy the experience.

I thought the book was too long. I appreciate the detailed descriptions and many chapter headings the author used to help the reader understand the flow and context of the story.

Historia
Mary Oliver has published fifteen volumes of poetry and five books of prose in the span of four decades, but she rarely performs her poetry in live readings. Now, with the arrival of At Blackwater Pond, Mary Oliver has given her audience what they've longed to hear: the poet's voice reading her own work.

Now they need Easy. As he says: "I was worth a precinct full of detectives when the cops needed the word in the ghetto." But Easy turns them down. He's married now, a father -- and his detective days are over.

Historia
Following the success of At Blackwater Pond, this second CD from best-selling poet Mary Oliver contains a selection of 37 previously published poems and four as yet uncollected, read by the poet in her steady, magnetic voice. Oliver recites from the full range of her poetry - from her classic nature writing, to her verses for her mischievous bichon Percy, to her ever-deepening spiritual poems. Many Miles will be a most welcome addition to the collections of her fans.

I love everything about Mary Oliver and the poetry she writes. In these difficult times when reading or listening to the news is akin to pitched battle, Mary Oliver’s poetry provides a beautiful and serene place to stop and enjoy life.

Historia
As a columnist for the New York Times who writes often about spiritual topics for a skeptical audience, Ross Douthat understands that many of us—whether we are agnostic, somewhat religious, or longtime believers—want to have more faith than we do. But we think we can't believe the way our ancestors did, knowing what we know now—can we? With clear and straightforward arguments, Believe shows how religious belief makes sense of the order of the cosmos and our place within it, illuminates the mystery of consciousness, and explains the persistent reality of encounters with the supernatural.

Review of Douthat Book
Revisado: 05-27-25
I liked the earnestness with which the author embraced the topic. I did not like his writing style. His pretentiousness caused his message to be lost in his style.

Historia
We are all familiar with the image of the immensely clever judge who discerns the best rule of common law for the case at hand. But is this common-law mindset, which is appropriate in its place, suitable also in statutory and constitutional interpretation? In a witty and trenchant essay, Justice Scalia answers this question with a resounding negative.

Great story — great performance — I attended a MasterClass session with Marie Howe and Billy Collins. I was already aware of Mr. Collins but that was my first exposure to Ms. Howe. I was very impressed, and that’s why I purchased this audiobook.

Historia
The guru to the gurus at last shares his knowledge with the rest of us. Nobel laureate Daniel Kahneman's seminal studies in behavioral psychology, behavioral economics, and happiness studies have influenced numerous other authors, including Steven Pinker and Malcolm Gladwell. In Thinking, Fast and Slow, Kahneman at last offers his own, first book for the general public. It is a lucid and enlightening summary of his life's work. It will change the way you think about thinking. Two systems drive the way we think and make choices, Kahneman explains....

Thorough treatment of topic
Revisado: 02-27-25
I liked this audiobook. As with all Hemingway writings, the works were thorough, well-edited and interesting. In some places the work was a bit lengthy but that is to be expected in light of the stories involved and the nature of the narratives.
