I’ll give examples but I won’t use spoilers. This is long but it’s an honest review.
Let me begin with, I only buy very long books, at least 30 hours and I “read” 3-4 books a week; honestly (I don’t sleep much). I had never heard of the series but someone suggested it for me.
Since I had not heard of it, I thought this version would be helpful having the author explain things I would have otherwise missed. Well, I suggest, if you’re new to the series, buy the regular version. With the author butting in, you lose the flow; like you’re listening to a “goodbye” scene and just before the sadness hits you, the author butts in “that was a sad part” killing the intended vibe. Also, because he pretty much won’t shut up, I found myself losing interest and not paying attention. When I realized I wasn’t paying attention, I had to go back 4-5 chapters. With normally reading 3-4 books a week, this book took me literally 2 weeks to get half way through. I was very irritated by then that I gave up and didn’t finish.
Another thing that bugged me, was use of the word “several” meaning, many, a lot etc but this author used it often but when he wasn’t talking about many. The way he was describing the situation, it felt like he was trying to say “few”, not a lot.
The last thing that annoyed me and it was only once or twice but once it gets in your head, it stays there. In the scenes where the good guy is face to face with the bad guy for the first time. Imagine if you will, the first time Harry meets Voldemort. Harry was what? Like 13?? Well, it was still tense when they starting their monologues. In this book it’s more like the nerd in high school trying to sound tough but ends up sounding like you’re very naive grandmother (not a direct quote or spoiler just an exaggerating description) “Now listen here you you (stutters) um flunky, go away or I sure will make you sorry” you get the idea. That also kills the vibe of the entire story.
With all that said, the narrator was awesome! Great male and female voices and really great accents.
The story was alright but like I said, I only got half way and didn’t finish. It’s basically any fantasy with a group of friends have to go on a quest and save the world, yes obviously inspired by LotR but not as good. It’s definitely not a bad read but considering there are like 1,900 books in the series and you only get 2 or maybe just 1 credit a month, there are several better options to use your credit with. I wish I had left it in my wish list for Audible to add if their free book collectibon.

It’s not easy making the career jump from office-supplies-store middle manager to heroic interdimensional adventurer. At least, Jason tries to be heroic, but it's hard to be good when all your powers are evil. He’ll face off against cannibals, cultists, wizards, monsters...and that’s just on the first day. He’s going to need courage, he’s going to need wit, and he’s going to need some magic powers of his own. But first, he’s going to need pants.

Just finished book 11 - wanted to review the 1st book to grab the unsure.
Revisado: 08-09-24
Ok, I mostly “read” fantasy and never had an interest in LitRPG before. When I was looking for a new series, these titles kept constantly coming up as “suggested”, so I gave in and got the first book.
At first I was like “WTH is this”? But I kept listening and I don’t know exactly what got me but before I knew it, I was hooked. It took me roughly a week and a half - 2 weeks to read all 11 books.
It was very funny and some parts are utterly heartbreaking. The narrator was absolutely brilliant! He has most definitely made my top 3 narrator list. I currently have 2 friends that I wanted them to listen so badly, I bought them both the book.
I saw some comments complaining about Jason’s (main character) atheism; personally I am an atheist so it didn’t bother me. However keep in mind that people grow up and change their views.
I completely recommend the series, so stop reading this and purchase the book! I envy you that you have such a great trip ahead of you and here I am waiting who knows how long for book 12.
Enjoy!

It’s Cold Spring not “Springs”!!
Revisado: 07-02-24
This is a cute series; to be honest I’m only listening (currently on book 9) because they’re free. Two things bugged me but only because I get annoyed easily over little things.
The first is that the main character is from Cold Spring; I grew up in Hopewell Junction about 15 min away. You’d think “how many times could a series possibly mention the hometown”? Well, the answer is: a lot more than you’d think. However, they kept calling it “Cold Springs”. If you’re going to use a real world anything, at least get the name right.
The other thing was the use “deadpan”; I could sadly bet, the word is used at least once in every conversation. There are other words, blank, poker-face, serious etc etc etc. (now when you listen to the series you’ll start counting the uses).
Other than those two issues, it’s cute and worth it while you’re waiting for you next credit.

Imagine a world where Covid never got worse and worse and the MAGAts succeeded on Jan. 6th.
Revisado: 10-07-23
I saw reviews saying this book was just like “The Stand”; yes there are definitely a lot of similar parts between the books and the younger sister even says “this is like The Stand” but it’s also not at all the same.
Just imagine if *45’s army of MAGAt white supremacists were successful on January 6th and did manage to overtake the country. Scary thought isn’t it?
This book was absolutely amazing!! The narration was off the hook. Perfect amount of gore, lots of funny lines and a few tears. I loved it and let me tell you, I’m very selective in what I like.

Can’t finish it
Revisado: 09-01-23
Let me start by saying I literally listen to books from the time I wake up, listen all day, then when it’s time for bed, I put my Bluetooth sleep headband on and listen while I’m falling asleep. I’ve heard excellent books and meh books but this one……..
I just couldn’t focus on it. My mind kept wondering because it wasn’t attention grabbing. I had to rewind countless times until I just gave up.
The narrator was good, the story was just like I said, nothing that would grab your attention.
