Once again Michael Crichton gives us his trademark combination of page-turning suspense, cutting-edge technology, and extraordinary research. State of Fear is a superb blend of edge-of-your-seat suspense and thought provoking commentary on how information is manipulated in the modern world.

Current!!!!
Revisado: 05-10-25
I cannot say that there was anything that I did not like. I appreciate the relativity of the content with what’s going on today…the endpoint…the goal of the current political aspirations…MAGA…and those who will eventually benefit. Eugenics…maybe rising again, fear certainly is the engine…science tossed aside. Anyway, I liked this book.

Historia
Compiled by intrepid journalist Neve Pride, this archive of recordings spans the months after dragons emerged on earth, chronicling the communities that sprang up amid the destruction, the scientists, military leaders, and experts searching for a defense, and those steadfastly seeking the missing. Neve and her young daughter Bex travel among the wreckage speaking to those left behind and surviving, against all odds. Neve records everything for history, and in the hopes of locating a clue as to where the dragons came from and how one might stop them.

Snacks of game of thrones, but….
Revisado: 04-06-25
I liked this story. Great description and many mental images projected. I’d like to see this produced for Netflix/Max/ or HULU. This could be the beginnings of a series…I’d watch it, especially, if the dragons are depicted right.

One day, a cataclysmic event occurs: all of the white people in America walk into the nearest body of water. A year later, Charlie Brunton is a Black man living in an entirely new world. Having served time in prison for a wrongful conviction, he’s now a professor of electric and solar power systems at Howard University when he receives a call from someone he wasn’t even sure existed: his daughter Sidney, a nineteen-year-old left behind by her white mother and step-family.

The theme of connective conscientiousness
Revisado: 03-04-25
The weighing of the use of the power of connection….even when faced with saving the “selves”…the people. Weighing the morality of stepping forward at the seeming expense of another group …even when it is “they” who have acted like monsters. No real resolution. Leaves too much to the imagination…hope.

The relationship …authentic
Revisado: 03-02-25
I think the story was very good.
I sincerely liked the “real relationship conflict between the sisters. I’m a bit puzzled over the timeline of past to present…i.e. Momma Bell’s youth…70’s, 80’s …or before?

KOKO. Only four men knew what it meant. Now they must stop it. They are Vietnam vets — a doctor, a lawyer, a working stiff, and a writer. Very different from each other, they are nonetheless linked by a shared history and a single shattering secret. Now, they have been reunited and are about to embark on a quest that will take them from Washington, D.C., to the graveyards and fleshpots of the Far East to the human jungle of New York.

A bit convoluted
Revisado: 02-10-25
It was hard to keep up with at first until getting to the meat of the book. The back story of Vietnam at first reminded me of the “Deer Hunter”. But, too much of fellow soldiers trek and antics trying to find KoKo and/ or the writer.
Then, it flowed well.
