Historia
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

Originally I had started this one twice and couldn’t stick with it. Finally gave it a third chance and boy am I so glad I did. A riveting, heart wrenching story. Impressive narration. Loved it.

Positive Redemption Story
Revisado: 08-24-24
I live under a rock when it comes to Oprah’s favorite books. When I read the summary for this one I actually thought it was going to be a fiction. I noticed it sounded like the author was not just “story telling” but rather sharing a personal experience, so I looked more into it and realized it’s a memoir. Thus it ended up surprising me. Big kudos to mama love for bucking up and doing everything possible for her life day by day. It can be done and it was inspiring to read (listen).

Sam’s life is on track. She has the perfect doctor fiancé, Jack (his strict routines are a good thing, really), a great job in Manhattan (unless they fire her), and is about to tour a wedding venue near her family’s Long Island beach house. Everything should go to plan, yet the minute she arrives, Sam senses something is off. Wyatt is here. Her Wyatt. But there’s no reason for a thirty-year-old engaged woman to feel panicked around the guy who broke her heart when she was seventeen. Right?

A Light Read
Revisado: 08-24-24
I typically read murder mysteries, fantasy, historic fiction and thrillers. They tend to get heavy and intense so I like to incorporate stories like this. It’s a classic girl-visits-her-parents-beach-house-and-an-old-fling-is-revamped… you get the gist. It’s girly and predictable and has a cute happy ending.

Another Good Slaughter Story
Revisado: 08-24-24
No pun intended…
The root of this story is disturbing and tragic. As always Slaughter writes it in a way that allows the reader to see the pieces coming together. I don’t know what it is about this author but the endings often seem either too predictable or disappointing. This one wasn’t an exception. However the story along the way was nothing short of captivating. There were a few things that seemed far fetched, a little forced or unnecessary. But as a whole I liked this one.

Pretty Good!
Revisado: 08-24-24
This one was thrilling and edgy as always. The writing and narration are great. Captivating for most of the story and some scenes that got pretty nail biting and suspenseful. I love how this author switches from past to present and from character to character so the reader starts to piece things together.
However the ending/answer to it all was a little far fetched to me… it’s hard to describe my opinion on it without giving it away. I just felt like it didn’t seem realistic?
Overall an entertaining read, though.

Great Story and Writing
Revisado: 08-24-24
I loved the way this was written. The author switches between past and present throughout the book and the reader (/listener) sees the pieces coming together. I don’t know if I’ve just read too many thriller/mysteries but I did accurately predict who done it. Usually when I can predict how a story will end, I start feeling “meh” about it and am ultimately disappointed. But this story along the way still made me second guess my prediction a few times, so it kept me engaged till the end and I didn’t totally spoil the ending for myself.

Hannah Does it Again
Revisado: 08-24-24
This book was outstanding. The narration was one of the best I’ve heard. Kristin Hannah has made me fall in love with historic fictions. The Women is definitely one of my top favorites. She gives an incredible glimpse into a war and its aftermath that I was not familiar enough with (born in 95, no known Vietnam vets). Her way of story telling from the eyes of a woman that was in it and her struggle to re-enter “normalcy” upon her return was captivating to say the least. I was hooked immediately and remained so the entire length of the story.

Okay, Not Great
Revisado: 09-12-23
This was my first read/listen from this author. It was a bit underwhelming and I felt like the “twist” was pretty predictable as the story went on. The couple of twists and turns felt a little forced. The plot is interesting enough to start the book, but it isn’t entirely complex. I feel like it lacks deep descriptions, as it never had me on-the-edge-of-my-seat thrilled. Maybe it was just me, but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this one.

Historia
The saying "babies don't come with a manual" may be true - but newborn books are a good place to start. Parenting is a process of phases and milestones, and newborn books are invaluable. Each new stage, as important as the last, serves as a building process for years of parental education and care. The Newborn Handbook will gently and sequentially lead you through each week of caring for a newborn in the first three months - the weeks and months that can be both exhilarating as well as nerve-racking.

Simple and Informative
Revisado: 06-22-23
I found this book to be very easy to listen to and informative. Being in my first pregnancy I was focusing so much on pregnancy books and not enough on newborn 101. This book has given me the basics to feel much more confident for when our little one arrives. I’m grateful I’ll be able to go back to reference different weeks as needed, or do an overall refresh before he arrives.

Buckhead isn’t a place you live, it’s a place you survive. And that applies even to the wealthy housewives that have it all. Fancy cars, designer clothes, and daily salon appointments aren’t nearly enough to keep them fulfilled and happy. Because in this town, privilege and opulence go hand in hand with betrayal and revenge. Jenny, the owner of Glow, an exclusive membership-only beauty salon, knows that better than anyone, because she knows everything about these housewives—down to each individual strand of hair.
