Historia
Alan W. Watts' "message for an age of anxiety" is as powerful today as it was when this modern classic was first published. We spend too much time trying to anticipate and plan for the future, too much time lamenting the past. We often miss the pleasures of the moment in our anxious efforts to ensure the next moment is as enjoyable. Drawing from Eastern philosophy and religion, Watts argues that it is only by acknowledging what we do not and cannot know that we can find something truly worth knowing.

Bit of a difficult listen
Revisado: 01-10-19
I really enjoyed this book but there were times when my eyes just kind of wanted to glaze over. I think it might take multiple listens to really grasp what's being said. The overall message and the performance (by my favorite narrator on Audible, Sean Runnette) were excellent. I took a lot from this book and I would often stop the recording to contemplate what I heard. I definitely recommend given it a listen or several listens.

Enjoyable
Revisado: 01-10-19
I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook. Some of the stories I felt skeptical about but you have to remember that they had a profound effect on Arkin and that's the point. You start to realize that it doesn't really matter what's true and what isn't but what really mattered is the effect that it has and how it can lead to leading a good and compassionate life. I recommend it.

Helpful and Motivating
Revisado: 12-03-18
There were a lot of times in this book that I stopped and contemplated what was being said. I really liked the tips and the spiritual approach to tidying up your home. I have employed many of her tips and I do feel better. I definitely recommend this book if you want to get some more organization in your life. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that, as an audiobook, so much of the information is going to be hard to access later. It was really good information but some of it was hard to picture and some of it can't be implemented right away so you'd want to go back and that's harder on an Audiobook. I used the bookmark button quite a bit. Audiobook, why are there no table of contents?

I laughed out loud frequently listening to this audiobook. Mike Reiss is an awesome narrator and his delivery of the jokes had me cracking up. As a lifelong Simpsons fan, hearing the stories behind some of my favorite episodes and characters was really interesting. I highly recommend this book to all Simpsons fans!

Historia
There's a lot you probably don't know about the Buddha. For one, the real Buddha was thin. And before he became the "Enlightened One", he was a pampered prince named Siddhartha. He tried starving himself in his quest for inner peace, but found that extremes brought him no closer to enlightenment. Instead, he sought a "middle way" between unhealthy overindulgence and unrealistic abstinence. The instructions he gave his monks about eating, more than 2,500 years ago, were surprisingly simple.

Great eating guidelines and Buddhist history
Revisado: 11-18-18
I have adopted this idea of a "Buddha's Diet" and I have found success with it. I enjoy this idea of eating only certain hours of the day. The book went beyond that though. It talked about mindfulness, meditation, healing your relationship with food, and so on. I loved the Buddhist stories and the history. The narration was excellent and well suited for this book. Friendly tone. I highly recommend this book and diet.

Narration and some context would be helpful
Revisado: 11-18-18
Some of these stories were really great and I could meditate on them and take some lessons from them. Other lessons didn't seem to make any sense, had no context, and left me more confused than anything. I am not a Zen master or disciple so maybe if the story was above my head having a bit of background or narration of the story would have been helpful.
I enjoyed the narration. She was pleasant and told the stories well. I also loved the music.
Overall, worth listening to but not definitely could have been better.

Here you have found a book so foul, so repulsive, so horrifying...that you will undoubtedly find yourself running to the nearest bathroom in an effort to both relieve your bowels and scrub your hands clean of its putrid filth. They have finally released this humorous collection of terrifying tales, despite the bitter public outcry which demanded these pages never see the light of day...and perhaps for good reason.

Poor stories, monotonous narration
Revisado: 11-13-17
Let me start with the narration. The narration was good in the sense that it was lively and you can feel the reader's passion. However, the narration was bad because he never changed his tone, timing, or speed regardless of what was happening in the story. The narrator can only do so much because no tone or time changes could make up for the awful stories. They were neither scary or funny. The first story started off promising but the ending was so stupid, it really set a lousy tone for the rest. The rest of the stories fell just as short. Listening to these tales reminded me of reading stories written by 6th graders who are just getting a handle on storytelling. No development, no tension, and no connections. There was no climax! Just boring story and a big let down. I had to ask myself "are these writers even fans of horror?" Anyways, I see some people enjoyed them but I thought they were awful and I can't recommend this book.

Entertaining stories, great narration
Revisado: 11-13-17
I really enjoyed listening to his views on the world and his life experiences. Though sometimes I thought he came off as pretentious, spoiled, or helpless but the stories still remained entertaining. I laughed so hard during one of the stories about a well dressed couple who cursed a bit too much. I had to have my wife listen to it because it reminded me so much of us. He is excellent live and still very good when just reading his stories. I definitely recommend this book!

Funny and valuable life lessons
Revisado: 10-05-17
I really enjoyed this book and Kevin Hart's narration. Sometimes his jokes fell a little flat but every lesson that he tries to impart is valuable. I found myself quoting parts of this book when talking with friends and starting sentences with, "Kevin Hart says..."
It really was poignant, laugh out loud funny, and at times really emotional. I definitely recommend the book especially if you're a fan of his work.
