Wow!
Revisado: 01-17-21
this was the perfect sequal to one of my favourite books ever! I didn't know where the author could go after the contest to end all contests, but here we have it. a quest like no other with a countdown clock of epic consequences. the twists were mostly unexpected & the conclusion worth reading to the final full stop.
a walk down memory lane through the 80s whilst grappling with current ethical concerns, this book will stand the test of time and be loved by many generations to come.
Wheaton was a pleasure to listen to and played the parts of the characters with consistency.
I will be "reading" this book again!

The battle of the dead was won, but at a great cost. Sion, leader of the Mist Village, was left with only pain and regret as Richter was claimed by the abyss. What no one but the abandoned chaos seed knows is that he narrowly avoided the curse of the lich Singh, a curse that still hangs above his head. Now, surrounded by miles of darkness and tons of crushing rock, Richter has to find his way back into the light.

Another step in the story, but not long enough.
Revisado: 06-09-20
Wow! What a story.Aanother step in the life of Richtor and greater appreciation of the depths of the land.
His growing mastery of magic & his specialisation as he journeyed through the Land was engaging, stimulating, well written and well narrated.
my only negative is that it wasn't long enough! 16 hours is a great length for a novel & an effort to write, edit, & narrate (that I completely appreciate), but you get into the story and it's over too soon.
Gnomes rule, this book rules, The Land rules, Nick Podel rules, and I can't wait for the next installment.
thank you for writing this book, Aeleron, and recording it, Nick.

I found the journal at work. Well, I don't know if you'd call it work, but that's where I found it. It's the lost journal of Nikola Tesla, one of the greatest inventors and visionaries ever. Before he died in 1943, he kept a notebook filled with spectacular claims and outrageous plans.

strange but entertaining
Revisado: 02-18-20
the style of this book threw me at first. first person letters describing the action would not be my first choice of literature. however, through this book, you are introduced to loveable characters, thought provoking scenarios, and what is essentially a modern rendition of a 'Bill & Ted' story.
enjoyed the narration & humour contained within these pages.
it won't be everyone's ideal selection, but will knock the socks off the typical nerd.

Not what I was expecting
Revisado: 11-01-19
I started listening to this book expecting one thing and it turned out to be something completely different.
just like a movie you put on, thinking it's one thing, but you aren't actually interested in it after the first 30 minutes... then you have to see it out for closure. that was my experience...
didn't love it. didn't hate it. listened to the whole thing for closure. won't go looking for any sequels.
on a positive note, the narration was particularly engaging. it was one of the reasons I stuck out the story to the end.
Thanks for the read.

potential unmet
Revisado: 10-08-19
It was a slow paced, fairly predictable, time travel story. I'm not sure if i want to try the 2nd book, but I can always hope it is better than this one. After all, it is the genre I enjoy so very much.
The performance feels awkward & is hard to get into.

magnificent 'till the end
Revisado: 05-11-18
a wonderful story with an interesting take on time travel I had never considered. it asks the question 'what if' and then, in waves of emotion, bobs you from heights of happiness to lows of sorrow and back again. just when you think its all over, there are a few final twists in this book I'd love to give a 2nd listen.
performance was to be expected from audible. sufficient, but also well accented throughout.
I hope you enjoy reading this book as much as I did...

Predictable, yet compelling
Revisado: 10-10-16
This is the kind of book that from about 1/2 way through, the rest of the story writes itself. Ok, some of the details were unexpected, but the main plot followed the highway of thought I was riding on... having said that, as my title eludes to, the story is a compelling read. To find out exactly how the author plays out the story kept me engrossed. All that in mind, I give it 3/5.
The voice actor was pretty good, but still not as good as others I have had the pleasure of listening to.
If you enjoy sci-fi that is reasonably predictable, then give this one a listen. The only depth is really in the main character with the rest of the story revolving around him.
