Slow-repetitive-incomplete and horrible narration
Revisado: 11-20-23
Story started out interesting but then drug on. I had to keep reminding myself that it was fiction cause no way in the real world would this happen the way it did as far as placement of the child. She would have been thrown into some sort of institution and studied. Overall the story was interesting enough to stick to it mainly to find out who how and why. But the worst part was the narrator. I mean come on why did all the characters sound so flat and old.

Revisado: 08-05-23
I don't know what to say about this one, I have started over 4 times and still can't get into it and have no clue what is going on. I usually enjoy Dean's books but this one has no interest grabbing moments. I keep losing interest and my mind wanders off and then I don't know what just happened plus the story has moved on. It doesn't seem like a Koontz story at all.

Historia
In the middle of the night, in a house on a quiet street in suburban Minneapolis, intruders silently murder Luke Ellis' parents and load him into a black SUV. The operation takes less than two minutes. Luke will wake up at The Institute, in a room that looks just like his own, except there's no window. And outside his door are other doors, behind which are other kids with special talents - telekinesis and telepathy - who got to this place the same way Luke did: Kalisha, Nick, George, Iris, and 10-year-old Avery Dixon.

Revisado: 09-23-19
I'm glad so many others think this was a great book. No me, I made it almost to the end but it just kept getting worse. A lot of redundancy. Reminded me of Under the Dome, a lot of nothing and too much everything.

Historia
Ten-year-old Nem has just witnessed her mother's brutal murder and her life appears destined for tragedy. Until, that is, she finds her mother‘s old green journal which holds an incredible secret. This innocent looking book seems to contain the power over luck. As she uses it, Nem discovers the diary keeps a strange kind of karmic balance, that in gifting someone good fortune she must steal another's first. All it takes is a simple entry. There's dangers though, and not just for others but also for Nem.

Why do I believe these reviews
Revisado: 07-02-19
Made it to chapter 14 somehow. This book is so convoluted, I mean all over the place. I've been more entertained by the yellow pages (okay so I'm that old). I have no idea what is going on and i'm all the way into chapter 14, I have not hear anything pertaining to horror, thriller or mystery. Maybe some do find it entertaining, and maybe it's just me. But from now on I will just make my selection on my intuition and not pay attention to the reviews.

Charming Horror Story
Revisado: 08-06-18
At first I thought "oh no, another dud" but I stuck with this book and I'm glad I did. I got to know this generational, crazy, eccentric, southern family. It was like visiting my distant relatives that I had never met before. I laughed, cried and dined with them (dinner is the formal-proverbial family meeting for them). The author writes clearly and with a positive tone. Good detailed descriptions. The characters grow on you, seduces and intrigues you. It has humor, mystery, family drama and little bit of horror thrown in. All the characters are entertaining. Some you feel sorry for, some you get mad at, some you want to slap upside the head. Even though there is some ghostly figures and river monsters, this is by no means a horror story. It's about a rich eccentric southern family with some weird and quite unusual secrets. So if you like southern Gothic (or not) don't pass this one up. The narrator did a great job. It's been a week since I finished this book and I miss the family as if I really did have a long visit to Perdido Alabama.
This was my first book by Michael McDowell, and now I'm off to discover more by this wonderful author.

Could not even finish it was so bad
Revisado: 02-10-18
What would have made Strange Weather better?
I have no idea, maybe not to have been written at all
Has Strange Weather turned you off from other books in this genre?
Not the genre
How did the narrator detract from the book?
slow-flat reading, no emotions.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Strange Weather?
all of them
Any additional comments?
I found myself wandering off throughout the entire book and had to keep going back.

Historia
In a future so real and near it might be now, something happens when women go to sleep: They become shrouded in a cocoon-like gauze. If they are awakened, if the gauze wrapping their bodies is disturbed or violated, the women become feral and spectacularly violent; and while they sleep they go to another place.... The men of our world are abandoned, left to their increasingly primal devices. One woman, however, the mysterious Evie, is immune to the blessing or curse of the sleeping disease.

This book was so dull and boring. I didn't finish so I don't know if anything ever happened. But seems like the same thing just kept happening over and over. Maybe it's time for King to quit & Owen to find another occupation. Leave the writing to Joe. JMHO

Engaging Story
Revisado: 01-25-17
If you could sum up The Last Tribe in three words, what would they be?
Engaging, Hopeful, Non-violent.
What other book might you compare The Last Tribe to and why?
30 Seconds After
Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I love anything narrated by Scott Brick
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
There were several moments. Discovering the New York group; when the uncles showed up and when father and son finally united
Any additional comments?
To say what I really liked about this book would contain too many spoilers. However I will say that this book was post-apocalyptic but without zombies, mutants, marauders or violence. It was a breath of fresh air to read a new twist of this genre. At best and without giving anything away, I will say it is modern day Noah's Ark. If zombies, gore and world gone crazy is your thing, then you probably wont like it.

Historia
No one knows exactly when it began or where it originated. A terrifying new plague is spreading like wildfire across the country, striking cities one by one: Boston, Detroit, Seattle. The doctors call it Draco Incendia Trychophyton. To everyone else it's Dragonscale, a highly contagious, deadly spore that marks its hosts with beautiful black and gold marks across their bodies - before causing them to burst into flames. Millions are infected; blazes erupt everywhere. There is no antidote. No one is safe.

I'm glad others like it, but........just not me
Revisado: 05-30-16
What did you like best about The Fireman? What did you like least?
I liked the narration, well done by Ms. Mulgrew. The story line started out well, but then fizzled and just dragged on and on with not much happening. Very little suspense. Harper will not be one of my favorite heroines. Well, to be honest maybe it did get better but I could not continue listening as my mind just kept wandering. I made it halfway and quit. I loved Nosferatu and Heart Shaped Box and Hills other books so I just knew I had a winner. But NOT!
Would you ever listen to anything by Joe Hill again?
Yes, I liked all his other books. This one just did not do it for me. Too slow and boring
Which character – as performed by Kate Mulgrew – was your favorite?
The Fireman
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Probably, because most of the mundane-overdone dialog will be cut out.
