In November 1860, Marian Foster joins a group of Virginia families who are sailing away from America to form a new settlement off the coast of Brazil. Outstanding!
Revisado: 03-02-17
I fell in love with The Uncharted Series and this prequel helps fill in the story as to how the land was found and settled. The author does a terrific job world building, both on the ship and on land. I especially loved the references to Chincoteague Island as that's a favorite place of mine. The sea journey is realistic, I could feel the boat rocking, and the trials the explorers endured were full of tension. The characters - especially Marian - are totally fleshed out. I felt like I was on the journey with her, rooting for her and Jonah. The narration was tight - a little too tight at times, pauses between sections and chapters would have eased transitions - but easy and pleasant to listen to. I recommend this book as well as the series to those looking for something a little different from the standard reading fare out there. It's a clean read - no sex, violence or offensive language - for those who prefer their reads flinch-free. I received a free copy of this audiobook for review purposes.

Historia
Twelve-year-old Jack knows they shouldn't go but is unable to persuade his parents not to take the planned trip to the Lake District. Something was going to happen, but what? The weird feelings he had were always so fuzzy and they didn't always make sense. Maybe it was just because he'd have to spend time with his pampered cousin, Rosie? Anyway, it was nearly Christmas and what could go wrong with just staying in some cabin in the woods?

A page-turner!
Revisado: 10-05-15
What a gripping read! I was engaged from the opening pages. The characters were well-built and believable, the pace quick, and there were a few surprises. I enjoyed watching how Jack and Rosie, who started out as adversaries, became allies and then friends. Definitely left me wanting to hear more about Jack's knowing powers. The narrator did a great job voicing each of the characters and bringing them to life. Recommended for anyone looking for a suspense-filled,fast-paced mystery.

Great story, excellent reader
Revisado: 04-24-15
I enjoyed this book and found it engaging from the first pages. The pacing was comfortable, the narrator Tristan Hunt's reading and voice easy on the ears. I especially liked the way he acted out each character's voice. The story unfolded comfortably, no rushing, no lagging. Although full of many relationships and subplots, it was easy to follow and to become engrossed in the characters. The hero, Jori, was well developed, as were the other main characters: Elle, Anna, and Olivia. I particularly enjoyed the characterization of Anna, Jori's elderly landlady, mentor, and benefactress. Torn Canvas is an excellent read, especially when listening. I'm grateful the author gifted me a copy in exchange for an honest review, and look forward to reading her other work.

Packs a punch
Revisado: 03-14-15
This short audiobook packs a lot of punch. The characters are well drawn and the story is both sad and uplifting. It certainly gives the reader some insight into the struggles of a runaway trying to survive on the streets and how she came to be there in the first place. Skillfully narrated by Danielle Cohen, Livingstone's debut novella is well written and paced, with descriptions that easily draw the reader into the story. It's spiritual message is subtle and inspiring without being "preachy." The only negative is that it could easily have been a full-length novel in the hands of this skillful writer.
