Historia
Sometimes a man can be redeemed. But not in the way he expects. Jason Stafford is a former Wall Street hotshot who made some bad moves, paid the price with two years in prison, and is now trying to put his life back together. He’s unemployable, until an investment firm asks him to look into possible problems left by a junior trader who died recently in an accident. What he discovers is big - there are problems, all right, the kind that get you killed. But it’s not his only concern. Stafford has another quest as well: to reclaim his five-year-old son, "the Kid", from his unstable ex-wife, and then learn just what it means to make a life with him.

A Little Different
Revisado: 08-26-17
Would you listen to Black Fridays again? Why?
This is a who-done-it that involves more than dead bodies. The financial stuff was more than a little out of my realm, but it was interesting and gave the story a wildly different flavor. Add the romance, "the kid" and the FBI, and the story is brilliantly multi-faceted. I had trouble putting it down.
Any additional comments?
I am surprised Michael Sears hasn't been given more press. His writing is intelligent, informative, cliff-hanging. Erik Bergmann did a brilliant job narrating. Listen!!!

Historia
Lady Cop Makes Trouble sets Constance loose on the streets of New York City and New Jersey - tracking down victims, trailing leads, and making friends with girl reporters and lawyers at a hotel for women. Cheering her on, and goading her, are her sisters, Norma and Fleurette - that is, when they aren't training pigeons for the war effort or fanning dreams of a life on the stage.

The narrator makes a huge difference!
Revisado: 09-13-16
What made the experience of listening to Lady Cop Makes Trouble the most enjoyable?
The combination of smart, witty writing and a narrator who performs as if he/she were right there, makes this an incredibly positive experience!
What other book might you compare Lady Cop Makes Trouble to and why?
Girl Waits With Gun -- the first book in this series (and hopefully there will be a ton more) is brilliant for the incredible writing and the terrific narration.
Which character – as performed by Christina Moore – was your favorite?
All were terrific -- Constance, the Sheriff and Fleurette.
Any additional comments?
Sometimes I wonder who chooses the narrators. Sometimes I wonder who actually pays them to do such a poor job. In this case, Christina Moore is among the best I've ever heard. She invests herself in each character, she doesn't pause after every fifth word and the flow is marvelous. Kudos, Christina!!

Seriously??
Revisado: 01-18-16
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The narrator!
How could the performance have been better?
OMG, yes!!
Any additional comments?
Do people actually get paid to narrate books? If so, I want to apply!! This narrator was wooden, unexpressive and inadequate with poor timing. I listen to books because I'm dyslexic (and I truly appreciate this website); I listen to about 100 books a year. Is it so difficult to find good narrators? Can you just walk in off the street? Where is Barbara Rosenblat? George Guidall? Kate Burton? Bronson Pinchot? Judy Kaye? Laurel Lefkow? Karen Peakes? Katherine Borowitz? Kate Udall? Kimberly Farr? Rebecca Roman? To name just a few. Or perhaps it's the director -- I'll apply for that job too! When I started listening to book, the narrators were skilled crafts persons. I guess because of the availability of so many books, there just aren't the good readers available. This book, short as it is, deserves a better reader -- the series deserves a better reader!

Historia
For small-town, Iowa lawyer, Sam McCain, the year 1965 is not a sweet one. His father is gravely ill. His elitist boss is just coming out of rehab. And, the brilliant lawyer he hoped to start a relationship with has gone back to her husband. Still, McCain tries to enjoy himself during the town's Labor Day weekend party, reuniting with several old friends - until two of them are murdered for what seems to be a motive buried in the past...

John McLain is no Bronson Pinchot!
Revisado: 12-27-15
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Much like the 50s, Gorman's series was not wildly exciting. But the quick reads captured the flavor of mid-west mentality, and provided a bully pulpit to expound on his own political bent. Entertaining and amusing, and brilliantly narrated by Bronson Pinchot (and to a lesser extent Allen Robertson), by the time I reached this installment, I realized Gorman was using a modern-day sensibility to depict politically conservative characters as almost one-dimensional. One takes the good with the bad, but in this case, the bad was overwhelming. The narrator is HORRIBLE! Don't waste your money or your credits!! The good news is that Joe Barrett, who narrates the last two installments, is almost as good as Bronson Pinchot.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of John McLain?
Bronson Pinchot, Allan Robertson or Joe Barrett.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Yes

Historia
Sue Grafton's X: Perhaps her darkest and most chilling novel, it features a remorseless serial killer who leaves no trace of his crimes. Once again breaking the rules and establishing new paths, Grafton wastes little time identifying this sociopath. The test is whether Kinsey can prove her case against him before she becomes his next victim.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
So many books in the mystery genre are about serial killers, the country must be overrun with them! Not so with Sue Grafton and this book is the best of the lot!! I will be so sad when the alphabet is completed. Judy Kaye has brought Kinsey to life with perfection!!

Steve, what happened?!
Revisado: 05-14-15
Would you ever listen to anything by Steve Martini again?
Yes.
How could the performance have been better?
A different reader.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointing. I suppose after writing a number of books, one runs out of good stories. I've loved the Paul Madriani books because of the sometimes intricate legal machinations he goes through. Not so in this one. The plot is unbelievable, complicated and peopled with too many characters. The reader is mediocre. Please go back to your roots, Steve!

Bad Reader Ruins Book
Revisado: 01-14-15
What disappointed you about The Monkey's Raincoat?
I was so excited about this series, until the reader began to speak!
Would you be willing to try another book from Robert Crais? Why or why not?
Yes, if Patrick Lawler isn't reading it!
How did the narrator detract from the book?
He put emphasis in the wrong places; paused too often; read it as if it were a lark.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Can't tell -- didn't finish the book
