Historia
Calvin Baker, author of three award-winning novels about history and the American experience, turns his attention to Europe to examine the entangled phenomena of globalization and multiculturalism amid the current recession in Spain. His poignant, astute observations, at times personal and often funny, take listeners into the hidden, unexamined world of European race-relations and the shared history and culture of the countries on the Atlantic ocean.

It was fine.

It would have been better titled, "Racism Encountered on a Spanish Odyssey." The story was generally fine, until they used the "N" word at the very end. Be prepared for that.

Historia
After the Final War, after the appearance of the Bug aliens and their enforced peace, Shining Smith is still alive, still doing business from the old scrapyard bequeathed to her by her father. But Shining is now something more than human. And the scrapyard is no longer just a scrapyard, but a place full of secrets. This life she has built, while empty, is predictable and safe. Until the only friend left from her previous life shows up, dead, in the back of a scrapped Tesla warplane. Clutched in her cold fingers is a note to Shining - warning her of a coming attack.

Good.
Revisado: 05-07-22
For the first two minutes, I didn't really like it at all. But the narrator's varying accents actually made the first person narrative bearable, which is rare for me. The only real gripe I have is that there is a lot of exposition during otherwise highly intense action sequences, which I believe couldn't be helped due to the length of the story, but was still mildly annoying. This is a decent read for a short story. I'd definitely recommend giving it a try if you can get it free on the Plus catalog.

Historia
Ten years ago he killed my son. Today I married him. Ten years ago my darling son Jesse was murdered and our perfect family was destroyed. My strong, handsome boy, so full of life, became a memory, a photo I carried with me everywhere. But today I’m finally close to finding happiness again. My ash-blonde hair has been curled into ringlets. Carefully placed white flowers frame my delicate features. The small, drab chapel has been prettied up with white satin, and there are tiny red hearts scattered on the small table where I will soon sign the register with my new husband.

Distracting POV
Revisado: 04-11-22
Honestly, I only got 10 chapters in out of about 60. The POV is first person with female characters (two different females, mind you) and third person with males. This is entirely distracting because the chapters are short and a moment of distraction from the story makes me feel like, "Oh, which female is speaking right now again?" Then the writing style changes entirely when the POV switches to male. It's just not my cup of tea. Kudos to the narrator though; she is pretty good.
