Historia
A dance club full of bodies. Cause of death - a mystery. The lone survivor - a man, raving like a lunatic, wearing only a deerstalker hat. Now, the man who calls himself Sherman Holmes is being studied like a lab rat by a top-secret government agency. How is it he can be barely clinging to reality one minute - yet be a seeming genius the next? Within his brain might just be the greatest scientific breakthrough of the millennium, if anyone can figure out how to access it. Enter the agent code named Watson.

Fun take on Sherlock Holmes!
Revisado: 07-08-19
While the idea of having an alternate take on the Sherlock Holmes mythos isn’t new (nor is the idea of a brain enhancing drug that only works for a limited period of time), The Case of the Damaged Detective is a fun and engaging ride all the way through. At the end of it I find myself hoping that Hayes will continue this as a longer series with multiple books— the characters are just so engaging that I’d happily revisit that world anytime.

Historia
On the surface, the Victorian age is one of propriety, industry, prudishness and piety. But scratch the surface and you’ll find scandal, sadism, sex, madness, malice and murder. Presented by Stephen Fry, this series delves deep into a period of time we think we know, to discover an altogether darker reality. The stories we’re told offer a different perspective on an era which underwent massive social change. As education, trade, technology and culture blossomed, why was there an undercurrent of the ‘forbidden’ festering beneath Victorian society?

Informative and interesting
Revisado: 11-10-18
There’s something about Stephen Fry’s voice that keeps you listening. However with Victorian Secrets, even if Fry were not narrating, it would be a compelling and interesting documentary on how people have changed (and yet, paradoxically stayed the same) since the 1800s. With Fry’s narration, this audiobook becomes something special. Highly recommended.

Historia
Two days before Christmas 1996, the broken, battered body of Sophie Toscan du Plantier was found outside her vacation home in West Cork, a serene region on Ireland’s idyllic southern coast. Decades later, no one has been charged with the murder, but the aggrieved inhabitants of West Cork are convinced they know who did it - and he still lives among them.

True crime at its best
Revisado: 02-11-18
I’m not one for true crime stories normally, simply because they are usually pretty dry and rarely have a satisfactory conclusion (especially in cases of unsolved murders). However, West Cork manages to surmount this by having a narrative structure that will draw you in. Sam Bungey and Jennifer Forde expertly mixes their own narration with interviews of the real people involved in the case. This audiobook is compelling not just because of its story but because of the interesting cast of characters that inhabit West Cork. Highly recommended.

Historia
When Fred formed his own parahuman clan out of necessity, he understood that it was going to come with new responsibilities. Much as he hoped those tasks would center around extra paperwork and perhaps the occasional mandatory class, enough time around the supernatural has taught him to be ready for anything. Or so he thought. As a freelance accountant for the Agency, Fred soon finds himself being tossed into new, unexpected, and perilous situations.

Fred is fun
Revisado: 12-19-17
Every Fred book is always a joy to listen to. The stories are always fun and engaging and one can’t imagine a more fitting voice for Fred than narrator Kirby Heyborne. The only negative thing I can say is that I wish the books were longer because it’s always such a downer when i realise I’ve reached the end of the book.

More Ex!
Revisado: 03-05-16
Peter Clines' Ex series continues with Ex-Isle. While we don't get much of my favorite character, Stealth, in this installment, the story is still a great listen. One wonders why the Ex-Heroes keep trying to make friends with others when it always ends in misery for everyone.

Good book, narration could be better
Revisado: 09-03-15
I had read the reviews of Stephanie Canon's reading of this book but thought they might have been a little exaggerated but having listened to it I have to admit her Chinese accent is not only inaccurate but borderline offensive. Apart from the terrible accents, Canon's reading is actually not too bad.
Regardless you get a pretty thought provoking (though a little long winded) book. Of course you can't read Apex without reading the first two books in the series or risk getting lost in all that happens here.

Historia
While my beau, Darcy, is off on a mysterious mission, I am once again caught between my high birth and empty purse. I am therefore relieved to receive a new assignment from the queen - especially one that includes lodging. The king's youngest son, George, is to wed Princess Marina of Greece, and I shall be her companion at the supposedly haunted Kensington Palace. My duties are simple: help Marina acclimate to English life, show her the best of London, and, above all, dispel any rumors about George's libertine history.

Lady Georgiana Returns
Revisado: 08-31-15
Rhys Bowen's Royal Spyness series is an easy read and it's always fun to revisit the familiar characters and see their relationships develop over time. While you never get the feeling that the protagonist is ever in any real danger, the stories are humorous enough that you never really have to focus too much on the murder itself.

Historia
English magicians were once the wonder of the known world, with fairy servants at their beck and call; they could command winds, mountains, and woods. But by the early 1800s they have long since lost the ability to perform magic. They can only write long, dull papers about it, while fairy servants are nothing but a fading memory.

Long but interesting
Revisado: 07-09-15
I discovered this book after watching the BBC TV adaptation of the book and I just say I enjoyed both. While the book is long there is a definite humour and quaintness about it which is very engaging. There're a host of footnotes here which adds a lot of background to this alternate history world. Recommended.

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

Great audio version of a great book
Revisado: 06-21-15
Andy Weir's The Martian is one of the few books I've actually read as an ebook and listened as an audiobook as well. Both versions are truly exciting -- there's loads of (as I understand) scientifically accurate detail but told in a palatable and exciting manner. R. C. Bray does a wonderful job with the voice characterizations and gets the essence of each of the characters right without being over the top. Wonderful listen.
