Great short story!

I wasn’t sure if I’d like a short story by the author because I’ve enjoyed so many of her full length novels. This was a fun break. The short story format allowed to focus on one primary character. The setting and nature background was nice too. I hope there are more short ones to come!

Engaging with great narrators

Sweet but sad

I enjoyed the performance. The story is sweet. There’s a lot of sadness and loss. At times it dragged and felt like the suffering was endless. I would have preferred a happier ending. I finished it and stayed engaged through most of it.

Skip forward to hear Erin (not Elin) narrate the last chapter

I have mixed feelings about the ending. The first time I heard it, I was a little confused and I didn’t like it. The author narrated the final chapter and that made the content difficult for me to understand. There is a convo between the author & narrator afterward. If you listen to it (or skip thru it) they include the final chapter as read by the narrator. Highly recommend listening to her read it.
I understand the author is emotional about the end of this era in her career but I didn’t like the choice for her to read the final chapter. She’s a fantastic writer but not so great at narrating. I’m so glad I found out about the narrator version from a summary online.
Once I listened to that version, I liked the ending better. I have read all of Elin’s books and have enjoyed most of them with rare exception. I’m sad to say goodbye to her Nantucket and its characters.

Good characters and excellent narration

Character development was rich and engaging. The narrator performed many voices well and consistently. The plot dragged a little toward the end.

This was a bit weighed down and not as fun as the first book. There was too much processing of negative emotions & events. It became somewhat tiring. The narrator is excellent. Story is just ok.

Narrator was not for me

I’m surprised by all of the good reviews for the narrator. I found the performance made it hard for me to finish. I skipped some. She talks kind of fast then catches her breath, repeat. The cadence is odd like a stand up comedy tone but that doesn’t match the content. She did the male voices ok so idk why she chose this affectation for the FMC. The story was sweet.

Fun read. Nothing dark or too heavy. Superb narration. I look forward to the next one.

Slow moving and dark tone

The content isn’t really dark yet the mood of this was kind of sad and bleak. The fantasy aspect was poorly developed and kind of corny.
