Historia
Eric was as shocked as everyone else when the apocalypse struck, but unlike his mother's movie, there were no chosen heroes destined to fight the beast hordes now overrunning the planet. Just people trying desperately to survive. Yet there was a glimmer of hope that humanity could hold on to. A chosen few really could level up in this brave new world, and embrace magic, adventure, and the potential for limitless power!

Poor reader
Revisado: 04-22-25
Okay let me be honest here. I can't tell if the book is only worth 3 in story and overall or if the reader just brings it all down. The reader reads each line as if it was the final climatic scene. The drama gets extremely annoying. I actually had to make myself keep listening.

Fell down
Revisado: 04-03-25
This is the third in this series. In short the first 2 were pretty good, good enough that I got this one. Oops. As far as I'm concerned this one fell completely off the truck, or bridge or whatever is the best analogy. Story got (even more) silly) and wandered off into "boring" territory. The children whom "mom" couldn't seem to keep from acting any d*** way the pleased up to and including endangering themselves and everybody else are even more annoying now.
Doubt I will follow the series any more...wasted credits.

Burned again
Revisado: 06-02-22
Look, I know tastes differ but wow. I bought 4 books during the recent "sale" all about $5.50 and they have all been losers, I'm sorry.
Here we have a litrpg (though not really) where we find that to play in the futuristic game you really ought to be a jock...right. Now I'm not the stereotypical gamer, on the other hand I am 70. I don't know of a lot of gamers who play to the point of thinking of becoming "professional gamers" (as the main character here is) who are also jocks. No if you are wheelchair bound, chubby, have any physical disability you won't picture yourself here.
Also just the way the book is set up bleeds far into science fantasy before we ever get to a game fantasy. I'm sure many will like this...I'm not one. Since I bought it on sale I probably won't try to return it but it will just "be there" as i don't plan to slog through it.
Save your credit or your money. There are a lot of good books here. In my opinion this ain't one.

Who wants to be a superhero? Hope did, but she grew out of it. Which made her superhuman breakthrough in the Ashland Bombing, just before starting her freshman year at the University of Chicago, more than a little ironic. And now she has some decisions to make. Given the code-name "Astra" and invited to join the Sentinels, Chicago's premier super-team, will she take up the cape and mask and become a career superhero? Or will she get a handle on her new powers (superstrength has some serious drawbacks) and then get on with her life plan?

Could have been much better
Revisado: 02-17-22
This is one of those books that runs very hot and cold. I went from almost putting it down completely to interest. The story itself, superhero/heroine coming of age isn't bad. It is at times very good, well done. BUT it bogs down so often. The MC seems just SO YOUNG at times, almost childish (this is the only super I've ever seen use the phrase "pinky-swear"). Add to this that the reader sounds about 12 years old and it can get a bit...well it just seems so young at times only to move into slaughter during the battle scenes. It seems a bit "split personality".
Also the juvenile romance was an interest loser for me. You may feel differently.
So don't know if I'll follow it up. The story is pretty good but I'm just not that enthralled.

Oh good grief
Revisado: 09-25-21
Honestly, I don't know whether it's the somewhat disjointed storytelling or the stiff narration which is more responsible for my abandonment of this book. The author is trying but he really needs to realize that if you're going to use the "multiple viewpoint method of story telling you first must keep us interested in each point of view and not simply "shift" to another at no interesting point, but you also need to develop each point of view.
As for the narrator, again he's trying but his delivery is stiff and he's apparently not familiarized himself with the text (at one point he read "sacred" as "scared".
Nope, not finishing this one. Some of you may be a bit more tolerant but as I'm abandoning the book, 1 star.

BORING !!!
Revisado: 08-11-21
Look, George Guidall is great but the story is just so slow and disjointed. With the jumping back and forth in time and the rambling account (in both time zones) I finally just didn't finish it. Too bad. I know others like it, but I can't recommend it.

Revisado: 11-12-20
I went 2 stars across the board and that may be generous. I plan to return this...unfinished. The thing is I'm not sure if the narration made the story worse or if it was all just plain bad. I got this when i saw some good reviews.
Well I'm glad someone liked it. It nearly made my ears bleed.

My name's Noah Kilmartin. I'm from Ruddock, Ohio, and I'm absolutely, 100 percent unqualified to save the universe from the slavering demonic hordes of the super evil queen Lilith. Too bad nobody asked my opinion. All I've got to do is pass five lethal trials that'll prove I'm the universe's last chance at salvation. To do so, I'll have to lean hard on those three years of Okinawan jiu-jutsu classes I took in high school, learn to wield my new magic sword, and, oh yeah - select five women to flesh out my team.

I was warned
Revisado: 02-06-20
First I need to give a mea culpa. I was warned. I read other reviews that told me how bad this was. But (as has happened before) I read the synopsis and thought, "okay surely it won't be that bad".
It is that bad. The reader isn't too bad I mean he's got the words to read. But the book. The main character is so far beyond annoying that that had this been a physical print book I'd have hurled it out the nearest window. I'd have taken the advice attributed to either Dorothy Parker or Sid Ziff, "This is not a novel to be tossed aside lightly. It should be thrown with great force."
The main character is the saddest dweebyist excuse for a protagonist it has ever been my displeasure to "meet". Not only that but he never changes or grows, he never even learns to fake it. He is in short pathetic, and I don't mean good or sympathetic pathetic. I mean "Oh good grief how dense can you be I can't take it any more" pathetic.
The book has a lot of gratuitous sex. I don't look for that, but it's not a deal breaker. At worst I can FF through it if it gets to all consuming. Here it's possibly the only reason anyone might stay with the book. This idiot is very aware no girl would ever want him, but he's in love with the girl he's known all his life. Still this doesn't keep him from lusting over every female in the book. ALSO EVERY female we meet here is incomparably beautiful...
Look, my recommendation? Save the credit and use it on something worth listening to.

Well...okay
Revisado: 03-16-19
The story here is pure brain candy...but that's alright. Brain candy is what I was looking for. Good action, evil aliens invading Earth, ground combat and so on. The book opened up pretty well and I got into the story/ As things went on I found myself feeling rather, blah about the book. I'm still not sure if the biggest problem was the writing (a little cliched, but maybe not too bad.) or the narration.
When the reader pronounced "bedraggled" as "bed-raggled" I knew I was in trouble.
