He is master of his own course of life because his father made every attempt to teach and love his family. He has lived a life figuring out what his father ultimately wanted for himself and family. Will Smith is a true legend.

I enjoyed everything about Tariq tell his story. The ups and downs in his life that I was unaware of. I have always loved his rap style and name, The Roots are legends. This was beautiful. I will relisten. So glad to have such a success story no matter how hard they tried. 🖤👑

Joy Bryant is a treat. Her narration was perfect. Joan's writing was like sitting in a room full of friends discussing hip hop and feminist culture now, then and in the future. Not a guide, so you the reader are involved. Excellent.

I loved her voice. The name dropping was most of her story. Doesn't seem like a memoir. More like who I knew. To repetively speak of how long and well you know Sam but didn't know that one thing the story was purposefully trying to hold out like a mystery that was so evident was the first time I started to not care for her and the story. It lost credibility really quick after that. Then not to celebrate him the way you feel he deserved, so what did you do to make sure that didn't happen beforehand? Nothing.

this was a nice listen. not sure if I read it I would of cared, or remembered. I may re-listen because the narrator kept me engaged. skirting because I vaguely remember the story now that it's over. quick listen, enjoy.

Langston Hughes wonderful journey.

I have always wanted to know more about one of my all time favorite writers lift. This was definitely the book to read to get to know him, travel and see what he experienced, who he met, and how the unspoiled life of a writer used his vision and talent to bridge that gap in our minds of other people, cultures and whatever human blocks we dream up for ourselves.

This is like nothing I have read before. I am so glad that I listened to the audio version. The situations the characters went through were relatable to anyone. The therapy recordings were like modern day diary entries.
