I read this straight through without stopping, cover to cover.

At first I found it slightly challenging in it's audio form, but that was very quickly overcome by merely speeding the audio up to a comfortable speed. One thing about the narration of this book, there are no English words that are slurred or hard to understand! Wonderful in that way.

But really, it's the content that is so amazing. This IS THE Letter to the American Church: for now, right now, 2023 and moving forward.
To quote what was described as the Christ figure in C.S. Lewis' "The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe", Aslan:

“Then he isn’t safe?” said Lucy.
“Safe?” said Mr. Beaver. “Don’t you hear what Mrs. Beaver tells you? Who said anything about safe? ’Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good. He’s the King, I tell you.”

He ISN'T safe. But He's good. That is what many American Christians, true as they are, are missing today. I can only say that because I recognized it is what I am missing!

I already have 2 ideas, rather big ones, of what I want to do from this book. They may or may not ever reach the people reading this review, but it's really not about that. It's about being more like my Savior than like the world, which I have found more than disgusting, of late.

Highly recommend!!!!

Anything narrated by Frank Muller is fascinating. He could read a lullaby and make it sound ominous! The story is believable and the plot is compelling. Even the second time around that last chapter was chilling and amazing. Definitely on my “new” classics list.

First: The reason I rated the performance at 3 out of 5 stars is only this: Matt Walsh apparently never took a speech class in school. One of the things one must do when narrating is to SLOW DOWN so it's more understandable. Luckily enough, my device has the ability to slow the reading down. So I was able to run this between 80% and 85% normal speed and it came out beautifully.

Now about the book:
I so wanted to see this documentary. But when I found the book I felt like I got the better deal! I can tell by how this is read that when Matt Walsh quotes people, he's quoting from an accurate transcript.

What seems to me like a simple question, "What is a Woman?", is suddenly (out of cowardice or perversity, I don't know) something no one seems to be willing to answer. I can answer it: a woman is a human adult female. Period. No, I will not bend the knee and tell a man with gender dysphoria that he is a woman, any more than I would tell an anorectic, "Yes, you're right, you're fat." (Can you imagine how damaging that would be to the anorectic?!)

Gender Identity Disorder (or Gender Dysphoria) is a truly difficult disorder and the people who actually suffer it need the expertise and help they used to be able to get from apt therapists. Rapid Onset Trans Gender or ROTG is something that knowledge and honesty can stop with effort, many voices, and time. This book is desperately needed during this mixed up time, and even more desperately needs to be read by many.

If you appreciate Walsh's no-nonsense approach, take a tip from him, and grow your backbone back again. It's worth it. After all, our kids' and grand-kids' well being is at stake. We must understand this and stand up to the lies it peddles. If we don't, children, ALL children, will be at the mercy (or should I say total lack of mercy) of more pedophiles than we want to believe exist. No, all Trans people are NOT pedophiles. That is not what I said. It's the lies that are being peddled that will lead to absolutely no constraint of any kind on pedophiles.

P.S. If you are a history buff, you know all this has happened - a little differently - before. I have only one thing to say to that: Christianity stopped it for long enough we had generations of people who knew that forcing sex on children was wrong. So you can thank Christianity for bringing that civility to our world. Now that it is the latest thing to throw Christianity out of everything, this is why we see civility to one another disappearing.

This is Alcorn’s best book on heaven, if you, like myself, want scripture throughout without being only citations. Simon Vance was perfect for reading Spurgeon quotes, and it made the audio version of this book so easy to tell who is talking: Randy Alcorn or Charles Spurgeon. And Randy, I look forward to meeting you in heaven but I will tell you as I tell all other Christian’s: do not take it as a slight if I spend the first thousand years gazing on our glorious Savior before seeking you out to thank you and fellowship. Thank you for writing and compiling this book that makes my soul leap toward heaven. What a gift it has been. I will enjoy it many times over, God willing.

Every human being is born in sin. We don't need to find a gene for it. Just notice you don't have to teach kids how to be bad. You have to teach them how to be good.
This man's story is so much like mine it makes me very very happy to have his book. I know the feeling when someone says "Don't you feel like you've been treated unfair because you'll be single the rest of your life?" And my response has been nearly word for word the same as Becket's: "Are you kidding me? I know the King of the Universe! I'm the luckiest man on earth!"
I not only highly recommend this book in a day and age when even the church seems confused about whether to obey God or not, believe the Bible or not, and what Christ-like love looks like, not to mention true salvation, but I also highly recommend Becket's You Tube channel "The Becket Cook Show". And just look for Becket Cook on You Tube and watch the interviews. You'll see the overwhelming joy he has. Truly God has not only saved his soul but also called him to this ministry!

No matter how many times I enjoy the Chronicles of Narnia, Voyage of the Dawn Treader is the one I never want to end. So many things happen in this book it’s easy to believe it’s far more than just one. Truly an enjoyable adventure.

"Safe?" said Mr Beaver ..."Who said anything about safe? 'Course he isn't safe. But he's good. He's the King, I tell you." - C.S. Lewis (The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (Chronicles of Narnia, #1)

It's amazing and wonderful to see an elderly teacher put on the boxing gloves, as it were, and step bravely into the ring of verbal battles as well as written battles, over the truth of Jesus. And for this reader, I've been waiting for this one for 50 years.

About that long ago, I actually attacked an Episcopal Priest after Sunday morning service for having stated from the pulpit that "Jesus is not Lord". And I wasn't even saved.

But just having passed my first decade on the earth, I wasn't a fool either. I knew that sign out in front claimed our church to believe in Christ as the Son of God, the Savior and Lord. To have the leaders of this same place who took money from even someone as young as me to feed their salaries stand there and deny the very Christ they got their whole show from was just too much for me.

The amazing part, looking back, is that when I collected myself, realizing the priest I had pummeled with my little fists had not a word to say, I turned only to see a frozen crowd of church goers, staring at me, like-wise dumbfounded.

I found that to be just beyond toleration. I still find it intolerable. And I'm glad to have such a nice, short and to the point book to pass around to whomever might have ears to hear the Truth, should they have any love for the truth in them.

There are many pleasant things to put on a “bucket“ list. This should be only second in line of books to read. The first should be the Bible. But many never wish to read that one. For those of you who feel that way, I highly recommend this classic. The Bible is still the best selling book of all printing history. This book is the second highest selling.

My sixth grade teacher read this book to my class and I purposefully memorized both title and author so that one day I might have a copy of my own. Half a century later I found it had not lost it’s charm nor it’s place in my heart. Recommend for all ages. A timeless classic.

This edition includes a brief interview of Theodore Taylor just a year before he left this life. Invaluable insights in that interview.

What exactly IS a "shepherd"?

I have been curious, having been born and raised in a city, what exactly a shepherd is and does. Oh, I knew they kept sheep, obviously, by the title "herding" them. But what else did they do?
Having now the Lord as my Shepherd, and He, Himself claiming to be the "Good Shepherd" I really wanted to know about shepherds. This book gave me all that and more.

I have loved Psalm 23 since I heard it as a child. The author cautions early on, that his book may "disenchant" (or a word like it) the reader's particular favorite or beloved understanding of the Psalm. I did not find that to be true at all. If anything, it deepened and widened my understanding of shepherds, sheep, the 23rd Psalm, and most of all our Loving and Merciful and diligent Savior.

This book is so comforting that it helps "read me to sleep" on my most difficult nights. Highly recommend!
