"How does one fashion a book of resistance, a book of truth in an empire of falsehood, or a book of rectitude in an empire of vicious lies? How does one do this right in front of the enemy? Not through the old-fashioned ways of writing while you’re in the bathroom, but how does one do that in a truly future technological state? Is it possible for freedom and independence to arise in new ways under new conditions? That is, will new tyrannies abolish these protests? Or will there be new responses by the spirit that we can’t anticipate?" Philip K. Dick in interview, 1974 # Follow the the ...

A very thoughtful exploration of our struggles

Damien very clearly identified the state of our relationship with the algorithms being used to direct our attention. Human attention is the prize that creates the power structures in our world right now. All those who seek to wield power need to gain some level of influence over the attention of larger and larger numbers of people. look around your own life and you can start to see the effects of the evolution of algorithms in your own experience. Do we seek ways around this influence or give in and surrender control without awareness of ultimate intent?

"Mrs. T struggled mightily to maintain composure.... Her head felt an overinflated balloon.... She had struggled even harder to salvage a rescue mission.... To retrieve what's needed to keep America safe from the Techno-Plague, Middle East Terrorism, and the Guardian Party." Book two's action explodes from where book one ends, relentlessly terminating old enemies as fast as new ones emerge. Can Electra keep her "secret" hidden while allowing males to play her deadly games as her array of extraordinary skills deepens? You won't find out until the last line of the last chapter!

Narrator needs to pace her breathing and not rush
Revisado: 09-19-21
The world depicted lacks depth and nuance. The main character is self absorbed and shallow. I have tried to like this, but the narration finally killed it for me. This narrator needs to pace her speech and breathing. She sounds out of breath, halting at unexpected places, then finishing the sentence like an afterthought, creating a blundering cadence that jars the mind. Add the multiple mispronounced words and you have a miserable performance. It is a shame because so many of the characters could have been developed into so much more.
