Facts are fascinating. quality med, slightly echoy?. reader a bit too fast. Allso includes back story to White Queen series on Starz. Really enjoyed it once I started to recognize characters. All the names and titles can be a bit overwhelming to a novice English history reader.

Historia
Few families can boast of not one but two saints among their ancestors, a great-aunt who was the last tsarina of Russia, a father who was Grace Kelly's pinup, and a grandmother who was not only a princess but could also argue the finer points of naval law. Pamela Mountbatten entered a remarkable family when she was born at the very end of the Roaring Twenties.

Lovely piece of history. From a personal point of view. Too much lord this and lady that. But, once she arrives in India it becomes much more interesting.

Amazing Story
Revisado: 10-08-13
Would you listen to Cutting for Stone again? Why?
Yes. Its full or vibrant, interesting characters.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I loved them all. they were all so well defined.
Which scene was your favorite?
Not necessarily my favorite, but the most memorable is the final scene between the son and father at the end of the book.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Family, life between a rock and a hard place. LOL
Any additional comments?
This story shows that family can be many things. Biology, doesn't necessarily bring the love and affection we think it should, but it has it's own advantages.

Disappointed
Revisado: 10-08-13
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Bored housewives looking for their ideal of exciting romance.
Has Fifty Shades of Grey turned you off from other books in this genre?
Yes. I doubt I would try anything that is considered to be like this.
What about Becca Battoe’s performance did you like?
It was OK. She did a good job.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
I was disappointed that it turned out to be a standard romance novel with S & M thrown in to give it a twist.
Any additional comments?
I haven't even finished it. The main character thinks she's independent, but she's really just the standard romance heroine falling for a pretty face with money.

Historia
In 1940, at just 15 years old, small-town baseball star Gene Moore was signed to the Brooklyn Dodgers, who saw in him the potential to become one of the great catchers of all time. Before that could happen, though, WWII intervened. Gene's story, a surprising paean to the power and humanity of a game, is told here by his son, a first-time author who exhibits the confidence and pacing of a pro.

Revisado: 10-08-13
Would you consider the audio edition of Playing With the Enemy to be better than the print version?
I really liked the audio version, I haven't read the print version.
What other book might you compare Playing With the Enemy to and why?
There are so many stories of comebacks that this could be compared to, but not all of them were originally sacrificed for the good of others. This man was not only a great ball player, but a great man and a great leader.
What about Toby Moore’s performance did you like?
Toby did a great job of bringing these characters to life.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The main character really sacrificed a lot for others, I loved when his friend gave up his chance to give him a 2nd chance.
Any additional comments?
It's always good to remember that our lives can turn on a dime, and we should always appreciate what we have here and now.

Historia
When acclaimed Washington Post writer Wil Haygood had an early hunch that Obama would win the 2008 election, he thought he'd highlight the singular moment by exploring the life of someone who had come of age when segregation was so embedded in the culture as to make the very thought of a black president inconceivable. He struck gold when he tracked down Eugene Allen, a butler who had served eight presidents, from Harry Truman to Ronald Reagan. Forest Whitaker narrates the story of this remarkable man who, while serving tea and supervising buffets, was also a witness to history.

Great Story!
Revisado: 10-08-13
What did you like best about The Butler? What did you like least?
I was pleasantly surprised that this is written from the perspective of the writer of the newspaper article about the Butler. So it is very different from the move. I really liked that. I didn't like the "history" of African Americans" at the end of the book. It seemed like it was just filler and unnecessary to the story. I would have preferred more history about butlers.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Eugene Allen is definitely the best character.
Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favorite?
Eugene Allen, the Butler.
What else would you have wanted to know about Wil Haygood’s life?
I would have rather learned more about Will, than had a history lesson on African Americans in film, what did that have to do with a Butler in the White House?
Any additional comments?
The core story is GREAT. I also loved learning that the writer of the newspaper article kept in touch with his subject and really cared about him. It was heartwarming to learn that they developed such a close bond.

Historia
In this luminous memoir, a true American icon looks back on his celebrated life and career. His body of work is arguably the most morally significant in cinematic history, and the power and influence of that work are indicative of the character of the man behind the many storied roles. Sidney Poitier here explores these elements of character and personal values to take his own measure: as a man, as a husband and a father, and as an actor.

Mixed review
Revisado: 10-08-13
Is there anything you would change about this book?
I liked the first part best when he was telling stories of his life. I didn't like the latter part so much when he was "lecturing" about morals, etc. I felt he adequately made his point with the stories of his life, the rest I felt was filler.
Would you be willing to try another book from Sidney Poitier? Why or why not?
Yes, I originally wanted to purchase the book about his learning to read.
What does Sidney Poitier bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He has an amazing voice and presence and it think books are always better served, when read by their authors.
Was The Measure of a Man worth the listening time?
Yes, Mostly.
Any additional comments?
Mr. Poitier lived an exceptional life, and I really enjoyed learning more about it.
