Historia
When a star dies, a new one must be born. The Sun God chooses the village of Endwever to provide a mortal womb. The birthing of a star is always fatal for the mother, and Ceris Wenden, who considers herself an outsider, sacrifices herself to secure her family’s honor and take control of her legacy. But after her star child is born, Ceris does what no other star mother has: she survives. When Ceris returns to Endwever, however, it’s not nine months later—it’s seven hundred years later.

Captivating
Revisado: 09-08-23
Absolutely captivating performance by the narrator and another beautifully written story by Charlie N Holmberg.
The celestial mythology/lore gives this novel, what I consider a beautiful and unique element. This book is deeply emotional, it has been a long time since a novel has made me cry for multiple chapters but the last 2-3 chapters were intense. They speak deeply to what it means to love, to lose loved ones, to sacrifice for those you love and what it means to experience true loneliness. I know some reviewers felt the book wasn't dramatic enough, but it honestly if you have not felt these emotions intensely for yourself you may miss these nuances.

Intriguing, but Heavy
Revisado: 09-03-23
-Audio-
Narrator does a good job with this audio book. She is pleasant to listen to and most characters have a different voice. For awhile I tried to discern if Ava and Mira were read differently. I think there were slight differences just because of their personalities, as a whole though, they sounded like they were read in the same voice and I gave up trying to figure it out.
-Book-
I found the plot of this book intriguing, albeit a bit heavy considering it sometimes feels like this is where we are headed as a world. It took me longer to read this book simply because of my own feelings of doom. I started and stopped it a few times. I am glad I finished it however, without spoilers the end does feel more "uplifting" and less "powerless" than the rest of the book.
While I did enjoy the book, it was hard to read for me. I definitely feel like I need a lighter read as my next book. Others may not agree, but I felt like the middle of the book kind of dragged in pacing and found myself wanting the characters to have a greater "win" than they were experiencing.
All this said, I probably will give the next book of the series a try because I am interested to see where the story goes now. I will just probably read a something else first.

I really enjoy The Paper Magician Series and the second book The Glass Magician was just as good as the first. I read through The Glass Magician in about one seating similar to how I did with The Paper Magician. I admit that reviews had me worried for the second book, but I read it anyway.
Look, if you are looking for high fantasy this probably isn’t the way to go. For me though, this is a quick fun read that involves magic which I love, (also reminds me of one of my favorite anime series ‘Read or Die’) and takes me out of my life for a little bit. Sure it has a bit of helpless romance and that isn’t everyone’a jam. As some state, Ceony makes bad decisions because of her love for her mentor, family and friends. However, that is her character flaw and I think lot of us a people pleasers that would do anything for people we care about find that this “character flaw”resonates with some us. On the other hand that makes other people see her ignorance as a contrivance plot device.
I will say I was a put off by the straight up terrorist = Arabic/Indian man. I did not feel that even needed to be mentioned in the story at all. It really pulled me out of the story for a good bit.

Historia
Folksy and fresh, endearing and affecting, Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe is the now-classic novel of two women in the 1980s; of gray-headed Mrs. Threadgoode telling her life story to Evelyn, who is in the sad slump of middle age. The tale she tells is also of two women - of the irrepressibly daredevilish tomboy Idgie and her friend Rut - -who back in the thirties ran a little place in Whistle Stop, Alabama, a Southern kind of Cafe Wobegon offering good barbecue and good coffee and all kinds of love and laughter, even an occasional murder.

Read/listened to this book as part of a book club. It is certainly an interesting book. I put it in with my classic favorites like To Kill a Mockingbird and Their Eyes Were Watching God. It just gave me a similar feel.
