Historia
Myrlie Louise Beasley met Medgar Evers on her first day of college. They fell in love at first sight, married just one year later, and Myrlie left school to focus on their growing family. Medgar became the field secretary for the Mississippi branch of the NAACP, charged with beating back the most intractable and violent resistance to black voting rights in the country. Myrlie served as Medgar’s secretary and confidant, working hand in hand with him as they struggled against public accommodations and school segregation, lynching, violence, and sheer despair within their state’s “black belt.”

Revisado: 03-19-24
I thoroughly enjoyed this story of determination and love. Mrs. Myrlie Evers-Williams....I salute you! Your unwavering love for your husband Medgar gave you the strength to see his killer brought to justice. The love of her children and her entire family is a true inspiration. I was captivated from the very beginning. Excellent!!

Forgiveness frees you!
Revisado: 02-26-24
Wow!!! I truly, truly enjoyed this audiobook taking us through the years with Lisa and Dana and their families.
No spoilers here, however I would like to share this-Forgiveness isn't so much for the other person as it is for you.
Harboring ill feelings towards others will eventually take its toll on our, physical, mental and spiritual being.
This story has prompted a journal questions for me:
Who haven't I truly forgiven?
This story also reinforced for me that I must forgive myself.
This story touched my heart.

Historia
In the famous photograph of the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. on the balcony of Memphis’s Lorraine Motel, one man kneeled down beside King, trying to staunch the blood from his fatal head wound with a borrowed towel. This kneeling man was a member of the Invaders, an activist group that was in talks with King in the days leading up to the murder. But he also had another identity: an undercover Memphis police officer reporting on the activities of this group, which was thought to be possibly dangerous and potentially violent. This kneeling man is Leta McCollough Seletzky’s father.

This was a very insightful and informative story!! In the author's own words, we learn about the gentleman who was kneeling beside a mortally wounded Martin Luther King, Jr.. A wealth of information and provides insight to someone who was there and his story in the years that followed the assassination.

Just after midnight on April 15, 1912, the passenger steamship Carpathia receives a distress signal from the largest passenger liner ever built, RMS Titanic, which is on its maiden voyage from Southampton, England, to New York. Captain Arthur Rostron is awakened to an enormous maritime emergency with little information to guide his actions in answering the call for help. Is the dire threat to the unsinkable Titanic accurate? His ship is more than four hours away; will Carpathia hold together if pushed to never-before-tested speeds?

Totally speechless...Absolutely incredible novel!
Revisado: 09-16-22
OMG!! All of my emotions are in my throat at the moment. Before I leave my review, let me say I was torn between buying the book or getting the audio book. I chose the Audiobook and I'm so glad that I did. The narrator did an excellent job!!
This novel is now included as one of the best novels that I've ever read. I'm so emotional right now. I am actually speechless. It's been quite a while since I've cried while reading or listening to a novel. Without giving away anything, kudos to Ms Johnson!!! She does mention that it is a work of fiction, however she does provide some historical aspects as a result of her thorough research.
If you haven't done so already, please add this book to your tbr list. I will admit at certain parts I had to step away for a day or so as I was emotionally drained by some events. I gathered myself and I have completed the book.
What a phenomenal book!

Historia
Experience a bold take on this classic autobiography as it’s performed by Oscar-nominated Laurence Fishburne. In this searing classic autobiography, originally published in 1965, Malcolm X, the Muslim leader, firebrand, and Black empowerment activist, tells the extraordinary story of his life and the growth of the Human Rights movement. His fascinating perspective on the lies and limitations of the American dream and the inherent racism in a society that denies its non-White citizens the opportunity to dream, gives extraordinary insight into the most urgent issues of our own time.

Revisado: 08-23-22
I read this book over 30 years ago. For me it is one of the most profound pieces of literature I've ever read.. The audio book does not contain the epilogue by Mr. Alex Haley and the excerpt from a magazine as told by Mr. Ossie Davis.
Nevertheless, the narration by Mr. Laurence Fishburne was phenomenal.

Let me be very clear...I love Tab!! I'm a huge fan, she's a beautiful soul. I didn't love this book. It was okay. I struggled to get through it and complete it. There were parts that really captured my attention and parts that did not. I would NEVER tell anyone not to read her book. I'm sharing my honest assessment and I'm struggling as I write this review because I'm such a fan. It didn't capture my soul, maybe it wasn't supposed to. It was just okay for me.
