Historia
Clunk, a clapped-out robot, is convinced he's about to be junked. Instead, his penny-pinching boss is sending him off to be refurbished. Being old and wise, Clunk knows there's a catch, but at first it doesn't seem too bad. He just has to help a freelancer pick up some cargo. Unfortunately, Hal Spacejock - the freelancer - is obstinate, over-confident, and woefully under-skilled, and he's never going to let a lowly robot fly his precious ship. Is there any chance this pair of misfits can lift off, collect the cargo and deliver it in one piece?

Neither funny nor clever, just stupid
Revisado: 09-14-21
I bought this based on reviews and because I read looking for something comedic. But the humor--so called--here is just an idiot bumbling around; not misunderstanding, just completely oblivious.
That said, Simon does do well at the other parts: descriptions are solid but not excessive, dialogue (aside from the inanity) is just right being neither too long nor brief.
This isn't the worst book I've read or listened to, but it's well down the list.

Better than Aftermath, still not great
Revisado: 10-19-19
Aftermath read like a D&D session, with random encounters just because it was time to roll for one again.
Life Debt generally avoids that, but the plot and characterisation still seems disjointed.
And the Matrix-prison? Who thought that was a good trope to use? Humans make really bad motors or generators, the putative prison would be better off killing the prisoners and issuing the heat of decomposition for power.
Marc Thompson's performance is as solid as one could hope.

Historia
“I have sensed a disturbance in the Force.” Ominous words under any circumstances, but all the more so when uttered by Emperor Palpatine. On Batuu, at the edges of the Unknown Regions, a threat to the Empire is taking root - its existence little more than a glimmer, its consequences as yet unknowable. But it is troubling enough to the Imperial leader to warrant investigation by his most powerful agents: ruthless enforcer Lord Darth Vader and brilliant strategist Grand Admiral Thrawn.

good story, good reading, annoying sound
Revisado: 07-07-19
The story is very good, expanding well on the characters. The Grysk could use some expansion, IMO, to really seem a creditable threat.
The main problem is that if you're listening to this under less than ideal circumstances (public transportation, flying, riding in a car, etc) you find yourself constantly changing the volume.

Historia
Those on the side of progressing humanity through advanced technology have finally triumphed over their oppressors. The unholy war between the small but mighty island realm of Charis and the radical, luddite Church of God's Awaiting has come to an end. However, even though a provisional veil of peace has fallen over human colonies, the quiet will not last. For Safehold is a broken world, and as international alliances shift and Charis charges on with its precarious mission of global industrialization, the shifting plates of the new world order are bound to clash.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, it's a pretty easy, fun listen. Not great literature by any stretch, but pretty good. Gun guys will like it.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Carl; he's a simple, meat-and-potatoes kinda guy.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Bronson Pinchot?
I wouldn't avoid them, but were the situation to occur where I could listen to the same book narrated by Bronson Pinchot or another reader, I'd probably go with the other one. Bronson's delivery is often out of sync to what's going on in the book; like, someone saying something serious delivered in a joking manner or such.

Historia
As the Empire reels from its critical defeats at the Battle of Endor, the Rebel Alliance—now a fledgling New Republic—presses its advantage by hunting down the enemy’s scattered forces before they can regroup and retaliate. But above the remote planet Akiva, an ominous show of the enemy’s strength is unfolding. Out on a lone reconnaissance mission, pilot Wedge Antilles watches Imperial Star Destroyers gather like birds of prey circling for a kill, but he’s taken captive before he can report back to the New Republic leaders.

solid performance, lacking story
Revisado: 03-31-17
I had hopes for this, but it seems that Mr Wendig can write a story worthy of Star Wars.
The characterization was adequate, but not especially good. A mother that off and leaves her son, who resurrects and modifies notably poor droids into walking massacres. A decently conflicted bounty hunter, and a former Imperial who's mostly there for quips and occasionally being rescued. A pile of depressingly predictable Imperials. And apparently he buys completely into the "Stormtroopers are useless" school of thought; as he writes then, the Empire would have been better off with the CIS' B1 battle droids.
He also seems to lack any understanding of physics. To often some action was performed that killed any suspension of disbelief (like a teen hanging onto the greeble of a launching starship by his fingers into the upper atmosphere, until someone _opens a window_.
But, most of all, he seems either incapable of avoiding or obsessed with Deus ex machina. The protagonists succeed more by the power of authorial fiat then by overcoming the challenges facing them.
All in all, I just can't recommend this (audio)book to either Star Wars fans, or people who like good sci-fi.
Marc Thompson and the sound engineer(s) deserve a shout-out, though. They did a great job.

good story, decent reading, poor editing
Revisado: 11-03-16
The story is good enough, reasonably standard fantasy fare.
The reader did a decent job, though her vocal range is limited enough to make it difficult to decipher which character is talking in some dialogue. Perhaps working on accents would offer better definition.
The most significant issue is the editing. Intrachapter breaks are unnecessarily signaled with a tooth-grating fanfare; and there are regular editing cuts with too little space between the words, which run together.

Good story, good reader, poor audio engineering
Revisado: 10-01-15
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes; it's an interesting alternate to the usual superhero tales
What three words best describe MacLeod Andrews’s performance?
Wide vocal variety
Any additional comments?
The audio is poorly normalized; the difference in volume between pieces (even within a scene) are occasionally drastic (painfully so, if you've turned up the volume to hear something quiet).

Good story, poor reader
Revisado: 06-10-15
Would you consider the audio edition of Deep Time to be better than the print version?
No
What was one of the most memorable moments of Deep Time?
When people in-story start noticing the pervasive decision making of AIs.
Would you be willing to try another one of Nick Sullivan’s performances?
I would not avoid a book due to being read by Nick, but given an option between Nick and another reader I would probably take the other.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No
Any additional comments?
The reading was very odd. Spoken dialogue was almost monotonous, but descriptive prose was read in an overly-emotive tone (almost like those boring movies in school).

Historia
Once the Church of God Awaiting dominated all the kingdoms of Safehold. Then, after centuries of stasis, the island kingdom of Charis began to defy the edicts of Mother Church—egged on, some say, by the mysterious warrior-monk Merlin Athrawes, who enjoys the Charisian royal family's absolute trust. What vanishingly few people know is that Merlin is the cybernetic avatar of a young woman a thousand years dead, felled in the war in which aliens destroyed Earth...and that since awakening, his task has been to restart the history of the long-hidden human race.
