I listened once. Printed the PDF and doing all the exercises while listening again. It does help. But when she says pause and make sure you’re in a safe space listen to her. I kept it on and kept driving. I had to pull over because it was all so true my body just reacted without control and tears flowed. I have a long process of healing but I felt hope and a sense of relief with these books. I’m a person who wants to understand and I wasn’t granted any of that from my CN.

Historia
The Covert Passive Aggressive Narcissist: Finding Healing After Hidden Emotional and Psychological Abuse is the most comprehensive and helpful audiobook on the topic of covert narcissism. This type of narcissism is one of the most damaging forms because the abuse is so hidden and so insidious. You can be in a relationship that can last for decades and not realize you are being psychologically and emotionally controlled, manipulated, and abused.

I had no idea coming from a past overt that there was a covert. He’s been doing this our entire marriage and I just took the blame because of my trauma from the overt and my mother. Trying to learn to love myself again and look at the attachments that have grown due to these relationships. I deserve better. I am loving and loved. I am a good person who has survived a lot.

Historia
Once a person hikes a long trail, they catch the bug, but does it get any easier the second time around? Four years after starting the Appalachian Trail with his brother, Brian takes to the Continental Divide Trail for his second thru-hike in familiar company. However, trail life is not always as rewarding and romantic as the pictures you see or second-hand stories you hear.

You feel what he does….

I think I enjoyed the book the most because much like me the author hikes for the experience, not the speed. While I didn’t always agree with his assessments of people or situations; his take was written respectfully within his own acknowledged voice. Had some great moments of humor. Definitely with the listen.

Historia
The real stories behind the scenery of America’s national parks. For 12 years, Andrea Lankford lived in the biggest, most impressive national parks in the world, working a job she loved. She chaperoned baby sea turtles on their journey to sea. She pursued bad guys on her galloping patrol horse. She jumped into rescue helicopters bound for the heart of the Grand Canyon. She won arguments with bears. She slept with a few too many rattlesnakes. Hell yeah, it was the best job in the world! Fortunately, Andrea survived it.

Don’t listen to the negative especially if you work in a park system
Revisado: 09-29-22
I’ve lived on many park properties, private and public as part of care or education teams. What she writes about is true. I’m glad she found a way to craft a story to be able to process all she saw and did. Yes, it’s blunt. Yes, there’s death. Yes, there’s cursing. If you aren’t wanting to hear what we hide from you so your vacations stay happy. Find another book. But for those of us that understand or those that want to. Kudos and thank you for everything you, your teams and your friends have done.

Gail Muller was told she’d be in a wheelchair by the age of 40. At 41, she set out to hike one of the world’s toughest treks: the Appalachian Trail - a 2,200-mile journey that would help her reclaim her life and heal her mind and body. An inspiring, moving, and uplifting memoir for fans of Cheryl Strayed’s Wild and Elizabeth Gilbert’s Eat, Pray, Love.

Unique Take, Enjoyable Listen
Revisado: 08-07-22
I’ve listened and read a lot of books about the AT. This one not only hit home for personal reasons. But, just left me feeling like she let us in to every corner of her journey; both physical and emotional. Having the author read and add her on trail recordings was a bonus.

I put aside myself to become what others expected. I’m now in my 40’s feeling the call of the AT and probably the call to come back to myself. This book hit home in so many ways and I truly made and emotional connection to so much of what the author conveyed. I may not get to through hike at this point in my life. But I know that the trail is calling and even if it’s in sections has lessons for me to still learn. Thank you for sharing your journey and the brutal honesty of everything that was part of it.
