You can get past the narration

The narrator is extremely off putting at first, but you do get used to it. However, after that you will have to deal with an extremely boring book who’s whole purpose is to set up the sequel. Would definitely not recommend

Ok…I guess

Audible has been trying to get me to read this book for years. On paper it’s right up my ally: magic, romance, and suspense all wrapped into one. Except the character building is abysmal. Story is pretty compelling until about halfway, it feels like the author got tired and stopped trying. A lot of leaps are made and the romance comes out of nowhere! If I’m to believe the motivation for reckless actions is because of love, you have to spend at LEAST a couple pages building it. Huge chunks of time are glossed over and then both MCs inner monologues are confessing love for the other…meanwhile you don’t get the inner resolution of how this woman gets over her ex fiancé. Kinda wishing I didn’t waste my credit on this one.
The narration on the other hand is amazing!

There’s “hopeless romantic” and then there’s “crazy”

The main character is absolutely unbelievable as a person. Or if this person exists I don’t want to know her or hear 8 hours of her life story.
The whole catalyst for this novel is a woman, who has 4 failed betrothals, gets left at the alter yet again but goes on her honeymoon alone (cause ya know her family pays for all this). While there she has to talk herself out of falling “in love” with a rando dude she meets who has nice eyes?! Which is obviously why she has to come back and get dating advice from a rookie baseball player who also left his fiancé at the alter. I mean come ON!
Jacob Morgan is of course perfection...Virginia Rose not so much

I Couldn’t Finish...

This book should be called “The Long Winded Psychotherapist”. I’m halfway through and there have been an equivalent of MAYBE 4 pages about the patient...the rest of it has been about the therapist and his life and background. I’m so bored and I just resent this title now.

I was in....until

I was INTO this story. It’s short but exactly the angsty romance my ears yearn for. I love the “guy falls for girl after a bet, girl finds out about bet, guy grovels and wins her heart for real” storyline. I get to said bet part, she’s pissed and I’m all about it. I wait for the repercussions....and there are none. Seriously. Man in question follows her to class and says “I’m not leaving until you forgive me” and then they go back to her dorm to “study”. Just like that she’s over it. If I found out someone had lied about sleeping with me, for a bet, and I now had a reputation all around campus because of this guy it would take more than 5 minutes to forgive him. COME ON!!! That’s just bad writing...

Masoginistic and Womanizing

I made it about halfway through before I couldn’t stand it and had to return. The story is intriguing but very badly executed. I’ve read many other “male alpha” stories that didn’t have undertones of rape at every turn. Every male character in this book is written and has dialogue with the “I could have you against your will, but I won’t “ theme and somehow that’s supposed to make them honorable....? NOPE!

Great Narrator!

I’m not sure if it’s the narrator herself or the pairing of the writing with her voice, but this book was completely brought to life in all the best ways. I agree with the other reviews that it’s a little disappointing we don’t get the male POV, but once you’re aware it kind of works with this character that you never really know what is going on in his head. I will warn others that this book ends on the WORST kind of cliffhanger. I’m talking middle of a sentence and then the book just ends with the reader/listener not knowing what is happening. So if you don’t want to invest in the whole series (which I highly recommend you DO) don’t attempt.

Oh the ACCENTS!

Overall I did enjoy this book. It was exactly what I was expecting and while it’s predictable I personally enjoy that. The female narrator was a first for me and not my favorite but Jacob Morgan should never attempt a Scottish accent. It was ok part of the time, the other parts it’s like he forgot he was supposed to be Scottish and at one point there was a whole chapter he sounded half asleep or VERY tired. It was so distracting!

Meh...it could have been better

Only Jacob Morgan could pull off this story. I was ready to throw in the towel with Ky’s character and especially after I heard Muffy Newtown’s flat audio narration, but I stuck it out. I wasn’t blown away but I was entertained and at the end of the day that’s all I’m really looking for. Praise for J. Morgan and his audio skills!

Promising but poorly executed

I couldn’t make it past the first few chapters. The premise drew me in, and the narration was wonderful, but the second the main character started pressuring Asia for sex 10 minutes after they met JUST because they were married and it was expected I was out. No moral backbone for your leading man makes for a terrible book imo.
