Historia
More than 20 years have elapsed since the United States last brokered a peace agreement between the Israelis and Palestinians. In that time, three presidents have tried and failed. Martin Indyk - a former United States ambassador to Israel and special envoy for the Israeli-Palestinian negotiations in 2013 - has experienced these political frustrations and disappointments firsthand.

Great insight but a little too long
Revisado: 12-05-24
Fascinating look at Kissinger, who at best, is a controversial figure. Policy wonks and MidEast history aficionados will appreciate the details but Indyk does tend to go on too long on the various (nevertheless interesting) topics.

Tackling some of humanity’s oldest questions along with new quandaries only he could imagine, these stories will change the way you think, feel, and see the world. They are Ted Chiang at his best: profound, sympathetic, revelatory. Ted Chiang tackles some of humanity’s oldest questions along with new quandaries only he could imagine.

One of the best SF books I’ve ever read
Revisado: 01-27-24
Philosophy meets SF meets excellent story telling. Very highly recommend. I’m now a quest to read more by Ted Chiang.

Historia
The president knows it's a perilous, high-risk assignment. If he gives the order, he has the opportunity to take down a global menace, once and for all. If the mission fails, he would face certain impeachment, and the threats against the nation would multiply. So the president turns to the one team that can pull off the impossible: Will Robie and his partner, Jessica Reel. Together, Robie and Reel's talents as assassins are unmatched. But there are some in power who don't trust the pair.

Not as strong as the first 2
Revisado: 12-26-23
Storyline was fine but more melodramatic than I would’ve liked. The voice acting was mostly a “miss” when doing the Korean characters - kinda cringy in places actually.
The first 2 books were really quite good, but this one felt dialed-in a little.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Best sci-fi book I’ve read this year
Revisado: 07-28-21
If you liked Weir’s other novels, you’ll love this one (I liked it better than The Martian, which was another great book, imho). Told with humor and heart, the story doesn’t skimp on the science and engineering either (I’m an engineer) and has plenty of suspense to keep you hooked. It’s a fun read with an interesting take on first contact with alien life. Weir has a good sense of human nature as well and his characters are nicely developed.
Audio narration by Porter is excellent too. Not an easy task, given the variety in characters, but he pulled it off very well.
Highly recommended.

Historia
Renée Ballard works the night shift in Hollywood, beginning many investigations but finishing none, as each morning she turns her cases over to day shift detectives. A once up-and-coming detective, she's been given this beat as punishment after filing a sexual harassment complaint against a supervisor. But one night she catches two cases she doesn't want to part with: the brutal beating of a prostitute left for dead in a parking lot and the killing of a young woman in a nightclub shooting. Ballard is determined not to give up at dawn.

Great story, sub-par performance by narrator
Revisado: 09-19-17
I'm a big fan of Connelly's and his audio book adaptations have been very good so far with the exception of this one. Moennig has a very flat affect and does the characters injustice by not varying her tones at all. By that I mean, whether the mood is tense or funny or someone's whispering or someone's yelling - she sounds exactly the same: flat.
Love the new character and can't wait to read more of her stories. Just please get a new narrator!

Whoever is first to solve them will inherit his vast fortune—and control of the OASIS itself.

Was skeptical at first, but it won me over.
Revisado: 11-05-15
I wasn't sure what to expect at first, especially given some of the snarky remarks on some of the reviews. However, I found the story to be very engaging, entertaining, and well crafted. I was a teenager in the 80s and the play on 80s nostalgia was pretty awesome to me. This book will surely appeal to most gamers, past and present. It's written with a youngish audience in mind, but works for a much bigger readership.
Finally, I applaud Wil Wheaton for doing an excellent, excellent job narrating the book. I'm an even bigger fan now. I am curious to check out Cline's other novel as well as other books narrated by Wheaton.

Historia
Written by cancer physician, researcher, and award-winning science writer Siddhartha Mukherjee, The Emperor of All Maladies is a stunning combination of medical history, cutting-edge science, and narrative journalism that transforms our understanding of cancer and much of the world around us. Mukherjee examines cancer with a cellular biologist's precision, a novelist's richness of detail, a historian's range, and a biographer's passion.

Exceeded my expectations. Highly recommended. Everything you wanted to know about cancer and then some, told in a very relatable way for the lay person. Unsurprised that it won the Pulitzer.
