Historia
For much of the 20th and 21st centuries, women’s sexuality was an uncharted territory in science, studied far less frequently - and far less seriously - than its male counterpart. That is, until Emily Nagoski’s Come As You Are, which used groundbreaking science and research to prove that the most important factor in creating and sustaining a sex life filled with confidence and joy is not what the parts are or how they’re organized but how you feel about them.

I wish I had this book when I was younger.

So much of this resonates with me. I think that every person could learn from the knowledge inside. For me, the writing style worked and the scientific approach to the material really worked to get me on board with the message. I hope that the cultural message is changing now for the next generation. I think the author and I are the same generation because I believed all the things this book sets out to debunk. Thank you for writing and reading this, Emily.

In “You Just Need to Lose Weight,” Aubrey Gordon equips listeners with the facts and figures to reframe myths about fatness in order to dismantle the anti-fat bias ingrained in how we think about and treat fat people. Bringing her dozen years of community organizing and training to bear, Gordon shares the rhetorical approaches she and other organizers employ to not only counter these pernicious myths, but to dismantle the anti-fat bias that so often underpin them.

I love the research that goes into all Gordon does. I will need to listen again and again because I can’t unlearn my biases otherwise. Thank you for creating this tool for change and opportunity for reflection.

Historia
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

I really enjoyed this book. The author did a great job writing and reading his story. It was fascinating to learn about growing up in South Africa and between cultures.
