Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Historia
It is three in the morning when Bobby Western plunges from the Coast Guard tender into darkness. His dive light illuminates the sunken jet, nine bodies still buckled in their seats, hair floating, eyes devoid of speculation. Missing from the site are the pilot’s bag, the plane’s black box, and the tenth passenger. A collateral witness to machinations that can only bring him harm, Western is shadowed in body and spirit—by men with badges; by the ghost of his father, inventor of the bomb that melted glass and flesh in Hiroshima; and by his sister, the love and ruin of his soul.

THE AUTHOR HAD A GOOD IDEA FOR A PLOT. HOWEVER, IT FALLS APART WITH MELODRAMATIC MOMENTS OF INTERIOR DIALOGUE, WHICH INSTEAD OF DRIVING THE STORY FORWARD, INHIBITS IT.

Historia
Born and raised in Milwaukee, Mildred Harnack was twenty-six when she enrolled in a PhD program in Germany and witnessed the meteoric rise of the Nazi party. In 1932, she began holding secret meetings in her apartment—a small band of political activists that by 1940 had grown into the largest underground resistance group in Berlin. She recruited working-class Germans into the resistance, helped Jews escape, plotted acts of sabotage, and collaborated in writing leaflets that denounced Hitler and called for revolution.

Historia
I Am, I Am, I Am is Maggie O'Farrell's astonishing memoir of the near-death experiences that have punctuated and defined her life. The childhood illness that left her bedridden for a year, which she was not expected to survive. A teenage yearning to escape that nearly ended in disaster. An encounter with a disturbed man on a remote path. And, most terrifying of all, an ongoing, daily struggle to protect her daughter - for whom this book was written - from a condition that leaves her unimaginably vulnerable to life's myriad dangers.

TOO SELF ABSORBING. MAGGIE NEEDS A SHRINK
Revisado: 02-27-21
I AM, I AM, I AM. IT FITS THE STORY, BUT AS WITH THE STORY, IT IS TEDIOUS. ALSO KIND OF OBSESSIVE . THE THERAPIST IN ME WANT HER TO STOP, AS HER REPEATITION ISN'T HELPING HER.
I WOULD LIKE TO RETURN THIS ONE.

Historia
Thirty years ago, Wilde was found as a boy living feral in the woods, with no memory of his past. Now an adult, he still doesn't know where he comes from, and another child has gone missing. No one seems to take Naomi Pine's disappearance seriously, not even her father - with one exception. Hester Crimstein, a television criminal attorney, knows through her grandson that Naomi was relentlessly bullied at school. Hester asks Wilde - with whom she shares a tragic connection - to use his unique skills to help find Naomi.

OVERWORKED WRITING, AND SOAPY
Revisado: 04-20-20
"GONE " SEEMS TO BE A POPULAR TITLE. NOT AS GOOD AS SOME OTHERS. THE PERFORMANCE INCLUDED SOME FAIR ATTEMPTS AT IRISH SPEECH BUT WHEN IT CAME TO ENGLISH, THE ACCENT SEEMED TOO POSH, AND PHONY. AND FINALLY, THE AUTHOR USED TOO MANY LISTS OF ONE THING OR ANOTHER.AS IF ALL WERE EQUALLY IMPORTANT.
TOO BAD AS THE CONCOCTION OF THIS STORY SHOWS A GREAT IMAGINATION. BUT TOO CONVOLUTED WITH MUNDANE DIALOGUE.

Historia
If you've ever laughed your way through David Sedaris's cheerfully misanthropic stories, you might think you know what you're getting with Calypso. You'd be wrong. When he buys a beach house on the Carolina coast, Sedaris envisions long, relaxing vacations spent playing board games and lounging in the sun with those he loves most. And it's as idyllic as he imagined, except for one tiny, vexing realization: it's impossible to take a vacation from yourself. With Calypso, Sedaris sets his formidable powers of observation - and dark humor - toward middle age and mortality.

Hilarious!
Revisado: 06-04-18
Very well written and a good performance. Seders has introduced me to his family, who I like as much as him. My only caveat has to do with his frequent use of skatalogical language. Old folks such as me, may be bored by it or offended.Still, if he is playing to a younger generation, say the one that is stuck in bathroom talk, this is perfect. I wonder why he didn't use the word FART.When my boys were young, there was nothing funnier than to hear me say that. They would bring their friends over and ask me to say it. My response was always," What, what are you talking about?" Then there would be more hilarity as each friend had a turn to say the bad word, and no one would tell his mother.
