Perkins seems to have a hard time maintaining his narrative. He can't decide if he was an idealistic teen or James Bond with a calculator. Some of his claims about interactions he's had are quite frankly laughable - if only because his descriptions of human behavior are so absurd. In the world Perkins describes, members of global secret cabals regularly walk up to random people they've never met before and explain that they are indeed members of a shadowy global conspiracy - and lucky you, they're recruiting!

You can dismiss much of this as Perkins simply being a poor author and not being very good at constructing a proper narrative (something that wouldn't be very difficult if the story was - you know - true), but he also shows some glaring misunderstandings of pretty basic economic concepts; which is strange since he was supposedly the chief economist for his all powerful and mysterious former employer Chas. T. Main - a consulting firm that consulted for the world bank and heads of state but also "kept a low profile" according to Perkins. He describes them as a virtually unstoppable juggernaut of "the corporatocracy" . . . strangely enough Perkins left the company some time in the 80s after serving as its chief economist for quite some time, and in 1985 the company was so broke it was bought by the Parsons Corporation. Maybe Perkins wasn't as good as they thought.

Perkins also omits a huge amount of innocuous information that would support his story. Example: He claims that he started a very successful energy company after he left Chas. T. Main, but the name of the company is never given. In fact it's very hard to find any mention of it in any of his work. He claims the company was successful and that its success was basically a payoff for him keeping quiet about all this conspiracy business. Not only does this contradict his previous claim that "when you're in, you're in for life" (so someone leaving "the game" wouldn't be rewarded) but the company in question (Independent Power Systems International) was a flop. He doesn't name names, he doesn't suggest that anyone is culpable for these things he's supposedly been involved in - least of all himself.

All in all, I strongly doubt most of what he claims in the book and his version of events reads much more like a pandering attempt to appeal to modern progressives than a first hand account of high level manipulation of governments.

I want to make something clear. This is not a manual on how to make more money, how to manage money, etc. This is meant to be motivational. If you like machismo based "I did it and so can you" motivational books - go for it. If you're looking for functional and actionable advice, this is not it. The first chapter is spent telling you not to listen to financial experts - right before the author tells you to listen to him because he's (paraphrased)"an expert".

I am pleased to a finally found a sales book that isn't 90% bravado and 10% bull excrement. it's rare to find a book that put so much emphasis on needs assessment and bringing value to the customer

Would you try another book from Jay Conrad Levinson and/or Jay Conrad Levinson?

I always try two or three books from the same author before I write the author off.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I'm still listening to "The Ultimate Sales Machine".

What didn’t you like about Jay Conrad Levinson’s performance?

Too much babbling. He seems like he's getting sidetracked and forgetting things along the way. There's also these annoying swells of music every now and again and I'd really like them to leave those out.

What character would you cut from 62 Free Ways to Grow Your Business Profits?

There's no characters, it's a business book.

Any additional comments?

This isn't a book that gives you methods or ideas, it's a glossary of terms. "Marketing weapon number X?: A marketing calendar. Have everything scheduled out so you know what you're marketing will look like down the road." - That's not a method or a marketing idea, that's an administrative tool, and the book is full of such examples.
