Historia
All through the town of Pine Deep, people are having their most precious memories stolen. The monster seems to target the lonely, the disenfranchised, the people who need memories to anchor them to this world. Something is out there. Something cruel and evil is feeding on the memories, erasing them from the hearts and minds of people like Patty and Monk and others.

Revisado: 11-08-23
I listen to a variety of books along with reading others too. There are very few authors that allow me to relate to the characters, but they are well written and worth a read like… He is both at times. He drags you in and then slaps you with character development along with the story. I have only experienced his supernatural which ranges from his young adult to adult, but each book has you in suspense and feeling for the protagonist.

Historia
Harry August is on his deathbed. Again. No matter what he does or the decisions he makes, when death comes, Harry always returns to where he began, a child with all the knowledge of a life he has already lived a dozen times before. Nothing ever changes. Until now. As Harry nears the end of his 11th life, a little girl appears at his bedside. "I nearly missed you, Doctor August", she says. "I need to send a message". This is the story of what Harry does next, and what he did before, and how he tries to save a past he cannot change and a future he cannot allow.

B!!!
Revisado: 04-17-22
First book was preachy, The second book was strong and I was happy with it until it got to that one point. All who have read it know the point I was talking about which brought a decent story with character development to another sermon from BLM to All Lives matter in less than a page. I am a huge fan of zombie books/movies/comics/cartoons along with end of the world. My very first taste that had me hooked was Vampire D. I believe there is a place for Vampires and Zombies like B but to link it to killing a zombie is like kill someone of a different race has me... There is a difference when I go camping and hiking between willing to protect my self by caring a whistle and being careful because of bears and others carrying a gun to go hunting for because they are dangerous . I am a prey for a bear. If one attacks, I might protect my self with my ax. (flame thrower or spear in the book) BUT I would not go and hunt them down ( I have come across a few of them). They are either protecting their young or hungry because of... HOWEVER, a zombie is mostly mindless and only wants to feed its hunger. It does not care about protecting and instead wants to spread the disease to spread to others while feeding. If a bear bit me, and I became a bear, I may think twice. SO the idea of..... seriously. It is not an us versus them mentality regarding races that just want to live in peace. It is an us versus a volcano. (volcano is not the right metaphor but the idea is that it does not care about anything but feeding) I could not kill a snake, spider, bear, or anything else that is trying to live unless it living would causes massive distinction and destruction. (big horror fan) B and her kind are like Vampire D, Darren Shan, or the hero in the book Cold Winter that are fighting against human kind being wiped out. I do not need the zombie to be compared to other races. The author touched on this idea in his vampire books, which were decent. He touched on the idea of feeding on humans and how Darren Shan fought it but understood he needed blood for food. To start comparing zombies to ... Tyler, you begin to forget that they are mostly mindless killing machines that only care about eating. Had you established your zombies differently like you did your vampires, then you would feel less preachy and have a better story. I want to read the others in this series, but I am afraid it will only get worse.
(Side note, I am cursed with empathy. I try to be a superhero. I believe that what we call villains are sometimes heros ans sometimes misguided that see thing differently. Vampire D, Darren Shan, and others are not villains just because they are different. B has all the makings of a Hero, but Her story was lost as was the reason why it matters. )

Historia
When news reports start appearing of a zombie outbreak in Ireland, B's racist father thinks it's a joke - but even if it isn't, he figures, it's ok to lose a few Micks. B doesn't fully buy into Dad's racism, but figures it's easier to go along with it than to risk the fights and abuse that will surely follow sticking up for Muslims, blacks, or immigrants. And when dodging his fists doesn't work, B doesn't hesitate to take the piss out of kids at school with a few slaps or cruel remarks. That is, until zombies attack the school.

Preachy
Revisado: 04-17-22
Preachy is an understatement. I am left wondering wtf regarding everything. I grew up with a racist mom and an abusive father. I understood her plight and her wanting to change. Many things B said and done I have heard others tell me (and still do) and did my self. So I understood where she was coming from. However, I kept my word even at the age of 10 not to be like my mother and father. Yet the book touched on the fat man and the mutants without giving us more. The first book hooked me to see where it was going. It would have been a great story if I did not feel like I was being preached to, and instead addressed or hinted at why there were zombies and the role the fat man played, (Fat man was at the beginning of the book so I feel I am not giving anything away; however, I would like to know more about her dream which is not really touched in the second book.) I was her which made me want to know more about her. (She was a lesser version of me but you know what I mean. We like stories we can relate to.) I will have to say the last part of the book made me want to listen to the second one. I cheered for B, I know her well. I was excited by the start of the second book and looked forward,
I believe the book would have been better if it did not feel like it was 3/4-4/5 racism. As one who sees racism everyday along with.... I am pleased to read a book about how it effects individuals like B, but the books are to be about zombies. After reading the second book, I had to walk away. I LOVED his other series. So this one was hard to dislike.

There is a role playing, dice less GURP, of Machiavellian game playing that is based on the books. The story brings you to the brink of needing more; however, you are left hating and loving the main character realizing it is that family dynamic.

as a Libertarian and Uber Geek
Revisado: 02-20-21
The 100 or so references (hyperbolic) were fun even those thrown in as fluff or a wink and a nod to geeks and sci fiction readers (alignment -d&d & Heinlein). However the problem comes as one who has OCD about the facts and the truth along with being informed, not pink hat wearing... Many of the jokes hit the mark like Mad Dog and Gender studies along with the dolphin arc, but it goes completely left field (yes left field because they are no better then left wing socialist ideology claims). They try and make fun of things like the Green Deal without getting the facts correct. There is much to make fun of with AOC. Cruz and the rest do a great job at it. Heck Tucker Swanson Carlson sometimes hits the mark even when he is trying to be sarcastic about something else. There are many things the author tries and makes fun of like college and student loans which makes me think he is talking out of his blow hole. I paid for my college out of pocket while working and going to school full time. (After all a student loan was not worth paying another 25% or more than what college cost. If I could not pay because I lost my 2 jobs due to politics. I would not want them to garnish my wage --I never believed in unemployment or handouts EVER... I worked full time while attending college full time and taking care of my young child) I worked for both a male Republican Christian who taught male center classes along with human sex and a female socialist who taught gender studies, and 3 other teachers - 2 in science. Their classes may have been seen as different and they hated each other but the bottom line was they were both the same, woe is me I am being oppressed bs. Even if you know nothing about the author, you cannot help but say wait a minute even if you believe Trump's tweets or QAnon. I have no problem with making fun or sarcasm, after all I majored in it along with science while minoring in both math and economics (still my hobbies). But this book is the reason why Dems say Republicans do not believe in science. This book makes me cringe at the fact he proves the points that geeks live in their parent's basements and have no social skills. (As one who has played a great deal of d&d with others and talked to many about geekdom, I am never surprised by their lack of real world knowledge, and he does not fail the stereotype.) I had hoped with listening to the development of the novellas and short stories I would find like minded people. After all I am an Uber Geek Libertarian who wanted an author I could suggest to others like me. Instead even with a warning, I am not willing to pass you along, which is sad because I even pass along hack writers like Jim Butcher/Piers Anthony and L RON Hubbard/Robert Anton Wilson. Had you even been close to them I would have passed you along. Alas though you do not even warrant a mention. I only wrote this review after my daughter, who stopped listening, my husband, and I would discuss the out and out ridiculous statements and the fact that people actually believe in the rubbish you write as though it is gospel and claim to be Republicans. Only my OCD made me listen to the whole thing instead of dropping it early.

Shrugs
Revisado: 08-08-19
I have grown up reading Stephen King and D.K. I enjoy the bizarre, macabre, and inventive stories, but I found this story lacking all 3. Although King's endings seem drawn out and feel like he is unsure how to end the story, his books are usually worth the time. I have always enjoyed the images he paints even if he spends 3 pages on one moment in time. You are in that particular moment with the smells surrounding you as your eyes take in the sight, yet this time he painted the same scene over and over, as though we needed to be told at least 3 times before we understood. The reader was a little lackluster. I find most books including textbooks and manuals engaging, so I was surprised when the reader started putting me to sleep. His monotone voice and the story has become my go to for sleep. Considering I am an insomniac, I am grateful; however, I have been listening to this book for over a month with no end in sight. (I tend to finish listening to a book in a week or a day if it is engaging. Books that range from 8 hours to 48, from science/philosophy/non fiction to fiction/sci-fi/horror.) Frank Muller has been the only reader who has put me to sleep.
